Our perfect angel Austin left us on April 11th.

She started everything with me including this business and this page. Austin was an integral part of DeNovo Canine and we worked together every day.

She taught me (with great patience) about sport training, helped me train countless client dogs over the years, and honestly changed my life. Always for the better.

I am so grateful for taking a chance on me and allowing us to share nearly 8 wonderful years together.

Ralph and I miss you down here.

Hi! Meet Forty. He is still looking for adoption or help via a reputable rescue.

He is 9 months old and 60 pounds located in Richmond, VA.

I found him abandoned on the side of I-40 two months ago. He was thin and scared so I got him healthy and started his basic training. Now he needs a person of his own!

Forty is friendly with people and animals. He is crate and house trained. He is fully up to date via vaccinations and preventatives. He walks well on a leash and enjoys going to the park and local farmers markets to meet people on the weekends. Medium energy. He grooms easily including nails and has been desensitized to a dremel. He rides quietly (crated) in the car. He ignores chickens and cats. He has already been e collar conditioned and has a nice off leash recall in the yard and house. He settles well in the house for his age and loves to cuddle and entertain himself with toys and chews.

As a bonus Forty comes with FREE follow up training from DeNovo Canine and Pet Services LLC.

He does need to be neutered (if that is even a drawback given it’s 2025) but is otherwise a fantastic little dog with a stable temperament who will make someone really happy. His biggest vice is he sometimes gets overstimulated when playing with other dogs and misses signals that they are done playing or tries to hump them… but he is just a big puppy who is still learning. He responds well to corrections from other dogs for being “too much” and adjusts his behavior well!

I do not understand why nobody has snatched him up yet!

Can you help Forty find a home? Interested in meeting him?

PLEASE reach out! PLEASE share!

For your consideration.

Meet Tahkoma! A spunky young male GSD looking for an active home or breed familiar family to call his own. Currently located in North Carolina, USA.

He has been fully trained (basic leash manners and remote collar conditioning for all commands) by yours truly and will come with follow up support and included training lessons for his new family. He is potty trained and crate trained. As with most adolescent dogs- he still requires management and crate time so as to not become destructive in the home.

Tahkoma is a dark sable male GSD, 6 months old. He is not fixed at this time.

He is handsome, spunky, and inquisitive.

He completed a board and train program here in RVA recently where he showed great food drive, moderate prey drive, and was very environmentally stable around things like slick flooring, loud city buses, shopping carts, etc… by the end of his training stay.

He is easily redirected via obedience and snacks and rarely has a problem now- but did show some inklings of natural suspicion and dog reactivity upon arrival to our program. I find this to be true to his breed- he has all of the standard tendencies of a working line puppy.

He is fairly high energy and can be pushy if not given appropriate boundaries. He has been exposed to cats and chickens and is able to leave them alone when asked.

He is too driven for his current home and his family has made the selfless but difficult choice to look for a better fit for him while he is still young and malleable.

He has EXTENSIVE training for his age and would make a wonderful active companion for someone who is breed savvy. He is well versed in heeling, remote recall, place, duration down, and sit. He rides well in the car (crated).

There is no rehoming fee requested at this time by his family, but we will be incredibly picky regarding where he goes. Expect to provide references and be fully vetted.

His owners would prefer someone local to the SC/NC/VA area who will take advantage of his *free* follow up training and support.

I did not test him specifically as a working prospect so cannot speak to if he would be a candidate for sport- he has been raised as a pet- but it is possible he could be a nice fit for someone who wants to dabble or who is looking for a club level companion to learn a protection sport with.

Please reach out to [email protected] or via PM with all inquiries.

Pedigree information and proof of appropriate vetting can be provided by his family. He is not AKC registered. Additional videos showcasing his obedience are also available upon request.

Please share and help us find this deserving boy his perfect fit! 💕

All excellent points.

Ask questions, get references, book an in person consultation- reputable and honest trainers will have NO problem with you doing so!!

Caring for your dog is a privilege and the decision to hire a trainer should never be made lightly. Advocate for yourself!

Today is one of those days, heavy with reflection. So many things going through our brains- one of those things is the Dog Training Industry in general.

Being selected by our clients is so rewarding. They trust us with their family member. Because dogs 100% are part of the family in today’s day and age. We pride ourselves on being entirely transparent. Our facility is open (during working hours) for people to see where their dogs are staying. Inspected yearly by the county, and honestly- the entire team here is so particular on our facility because we love each dog that comes through as our own.

There’s been ALOT of stuff going around in the dog training industry. Trainers not being open and forthcoming about where their dogs stay, using words in advertisements that are false, and taking ideas from other businesses due to lack of creativity or jealousy of business practices.

When searching for a dog trainer, make sure you’re asking the right questions! Here’s some GREAT questions for you to ask to ensure you’re getting the right fit!

🐾What training methods do you use?
It is so important to understand their approach and ensure it follows your beliefs. Do they used positive reinforcement? Are they balanced (where they use both positive reinforcement and corrections when necessary)? Or, are they compulsion based meaning they don’t use rewards.

🐾What are your credentials/experience?
While formal education isn’t required, ensure they have the hands on experience to back it up. Do they have any form of training? Or, did they train their family dog and decide they can train others.

🐾Can you provide references from previous clients?
This is probably one of the most important ones. Reviews are amazing, but having a conversation with a previous client on their experience is AMAZING. References can help ensure the trainer is safe, caring and going to offer training you’re hoping for.

🐾Do you offer a meet and greet/trial?
A meet and greet allows you to see how they interact with you and your dog. Giving you the opportunity to ask questions and decide if they are the right fit for you!

🐾What is the cost of your training?
Having a clear idea of the prices and what’s included in each program. Cheapest isn’t always the best option. But neither is the most expensive. Make sure all of the other questions are answered the way you feel comfortable with.

🐾Do you provide follow up support after the training is completed?
Are the trainers there to help ensure success? Or are they handing the leash off and washing their hands? Some trainers offer a specific amount of support time after each program, to help with the hand off and ensure the dogs are working well!

🐾How do you involve the owners in the training process?
Are you getting video updates? Video lessons? In person lessons? A take home? All of these are important questions to ensure your success with your dog! Video updates are cool, but in-person lessons are so important to help with timing, real interactions, and problem solving.

Remember to do your research on trainers- ask the right questions, take a tour of exactly where your dog is staying, talk to previous clients, and ensure it’s a great fit for you and your dog!
