Save Our Herders Outreach - SOHO Save Our Herders Outreach is a 501c3 registered dog rescue operating in the US south and mid Atlantic Our dogs come from several sources.

Save Our Herders Outreach (SOHO) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to herding breed and herding mixed dogs in need. We concentrate our rescue efforts in the American East and Southeast. Most of our volunteers and fosters live in those states and share their homes with their own Border collies, Australian Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs, Working Kelpies, Corgis and/or Shetland

Sheepdogs. Many come from high kill shelters where they were either found as strays or abandoned by their owners. Some were turned over to us by owners who could no longer care for them. Regardless of where they came from, our goal for every dog is the same - a forever home where they will be loved and considered a part of the family.

Meet Wakely! Wakely is a charming and fluffy purebred Australian Shepherd looking for his forever home. At about two and a half years old and weighing 60 pounds, he is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows his basic obedience commands. While he pulls a bit on the leash, he rides well in the car.

Wakely is a sweet, funny, happy friend to his family and those he knows, but he can be reserved with strangers in his home. His playful side shines through when he “borrows” socks for attention or engages in a spirited game of tug-of-war. A very smart boy, he thrives on mental stimulation and loves to stay right where he can see his people. Wakely enjoys a lot of attention and is always eager to join in on the fun! With a medium energy level, he enjoys playing ball in the yard and cozying up for snuggles. He also loves his crate (though he will nap on the bed just fine!) and would prefer a home that will continue his crate training. He loves training and really thrives when learning new things.

As a breed known for their stubbornness, Wakely may sometimes test boundaries, so an experienced owner who appreciates this trait will be ideal. He can be a bit territorial, preferring to keep a close eye on his home, and he would do best in a home with adults only and no other dogs. He’s also fine with dog-savvy cats. Hi Friends –
I am posting today to share with you the news that Save Our Herders Outreach (SOHO) is closing its doors in the next 30 days.
We have had an AMAZING run. Thanks to our fabulous volunteers and to you, our wonderful adopters, supporters and followers, SOHO has successfully rehomed hundreds of dogs since we began our rescue journey in 2015. It has not always been easy, but with patience and love these dogs are now living their best lives.
So what happens now? SOHO will wind down our administrative processes and our volunteers will move on to other rescues – the needs are great and there is always so much that needs to be done. We recently posted that Owen is now available for adoption, and we are partnering with Aussie Rescue of the Mid-Atlantic (ARMA) www.aussierescueofthemidatlantic.org to find him a wonderful adopter. You are welcome to apply for him through us or through ARMA.

Owen is a very sweet, shy, young Australian Shepherd who is now ready for adoption! He is 2 years old, he is a great weight at just 30 pounds, and he has a mostly black coat with some patches of white and a touch of copper. And look at those blue eyes! Owen is housebroken, crate-trained, and he is making great progress learning his basic obedience commands. He walks beautifully on leash although you do need to allow some extra time for periodic “sniffathons” – he finds all the smells irresistible! Owen is not a fan of riding in a car but he is becoming a more comfortable passenger every week.
Owen is a shy little guy who needs a little time, and some serious bribes with dog treats, before he truly trusts a new person. But once he trusts you, he is a total love bug who will happily jump up on the couch to get some pets and watch TV with you! In general, Owen is a medium Velcro guy who likes to keep you in view but he does not have to be in your lap at all times. Owen also loves other dogs (especially the ladies!). “Chase-and-be-chased” is his favorite dog-pal game. Owen is a medium energy dog with a nice off-switch. He loves to go for walks and hikes, race around the yard with his dog pal and chase his flirt pole. And when Owen is ready to chill you can find him quietly chewing on a bone or toy, taking a nap, or sharing the sofa with his foster family. Owen has not been exposed to cats, but given his interest in chasing deer and squirrels sharing a home with a cat is probably not a good idea.
The ideal family for Owen is loving, patient, and ready to be VERY loved in return. A fenced yard is required, a happy, easy-going dog pal would be fabulous, and any children in the home should be at least 12 years old. Owen is a true diamond in the “ruff”, who with time and love will melt your heart as you melt his! Boone is a handsome, loving Australian Shepherd who is now available for adoption. He is about 7 years old, he weighs 38 pounds, and he has a gorgeous red tri coat and stunning blue eyes. Boone is housebroken, he loves his crate, and he has wonderful house manners. He has quickly learned some basic obedience commands, he walks nicely on leash and he is a calm passenger in the car.
Boone is very shy, but once you give him some time to get to know you he loves to be loved by you! He is a high Velcro boy who stays close to his foster family. Boone is content and friendly around other dogs! He is not a playful guy with his dog pals - he is more of a peaceful co-exister. Overall, Boone is a lower energy dog who enjoys going for walks, exploring his yard, playing with puzzle toys and chewing on bones. He also loves getting pets, getting brushed, and he loves to crawl into his foster mom’s lap for some extra attention! His foster family has seen no evidence of a prey drive around dogs, deer, cats or chickens, but rabbits…..he will chase them.
The ideal family for Boone is calm, loving and patient. A fenced yard is ideal, a peaceful, confident dog pal would be wonderful, and any children in the home should be at least 12 years old. Boone is such a wonderful dog, but he will need extra time and patience as he gets caught up on all the socialization that he missed earlier in his life. Jaxson is a funny little Australian Shepherd puppy who is available for adoption. He is 4 months old, he weighs about 20 pounds, and he has a soft red tri coat and a cute little nub tail tail. Jaxson is housebroken, he is crate-trained (but he doesn’t always LOVE it), and he already knows a few of his basic obedience commands. Jaxson is still practicing his leash-walking skills and he gets a little nervous riding in the car.
Jaxson loves people! This medium-to-high Velcro boy listens well and follows his foster family everywhere. Jaxson also loves other dogs! Jaxson has that fun-loving puppy energy but he also has a very nice off-switch. He loves to play with his dog pals, run around the yard, play with his toys and dog puzzles (he is so smart!), and when it is time for some puppy “down time” Jaxson loves to play with his toys, take a nap, and get lots of snuggles. Jaxson has not been exposed to cats.
The ideal family for Jaxson is ready for love, ready for fun, and ready for a puppy! It is also important that his new family is committed to continuing his obedience training and socialization – he still has so much to learn! Willow is a very loving Border Collie who is available for adoption. She is just under 1 year old, she weighs 30 pounds, and she has that classic black and white Border Collie coat with a full tail and freckles! Willow is housebroken, crate-trained, and she knows some of her basic obedience commands. She walks nicely on leash and she is a great passenger in the car.
Willow loves people! She starts out shy, which lasts for about 30 seconds, and then EVERYONE is her friend. Willow is a high Velcro young girl who stays close by her people – she does not want to miss a thing! Willow also adores other dogs. She is a medium-to-high energy dog with a nice off switch. She loves to play fetch, run and wrestle with her dog pals and follow her foster mom around the house and yard. And when it is time to settle down she is always available for lots of loving and pets! Willow has not been exposed to cats.
The ideal family for Willow is ready to welcome a very loving, very happy and very active little Border Collie into their lives! Peaches is a happy little Aussiedoodle who is now available for adoption. She is 8 months old, she weighs just 21 pounds, and she has a soft, curly, blue merle “doodle coat”. Peaches is almost completely housebroken, she is crate-trained, and she has just started to learn her basic obedience commands. She is making great progress with her leash walking skills and she rides calmly in the car.
Peaches loves people, although she can be shy when she first meets a new man. She is a high Velcro pup who loves to be as close to her people as she can get! Peaches also loves other dogs, especially younger playful dogs who are ready to romp! Peaches is a medium energy dog with a nice off switch. She loves to wrestle and play with her dog pals, run a few laps around the yard, play with her toys and chew on her bones, and when it is time to relax she is the best lap dog ever. Peaches has also been known to bring her foster mom shoes and clothes that she “finds” around the house and in the closets! And to top it all off, Peaches loves cats and kittens!
The ideal family for Peaches is fun-loving, active, and ready to smile. It is also very important that her new family have the time and patience to help Peaches with her shyness around men, her obedience training, and her puppy mischief. Peaches is the cutest little Aussie Doodle and she is new to our rescue. She is 8 months old, she weighs 21 pounds, and she has a cute blue merle-colored coat and a half-tail. We have just started our evaluation, and we already know that Peaches loves people! She is a high Velcro girl who loves to be as close to her humans as possible. Peaches also has some of that typical puppy energy. She loves to run and play with her people and she LOVES to play with the cats and kittens in her foster home! She is also fine with other dogs.
