AKC S.T.A.R. PUPPY® IS AN OFFICIAL TITLE NOW!

Get your puppy’s first official training title!
AKC will begin processing titles on January 15, 2025

Since AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy began, it has been an award. We are pleased to announce that dog owners who complete a 6-weeks AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class with their puppies can now choose the option of earning STAR as an official AKC title. The official title will be listed on the dog’s title record at AKC.

For dogs who have previously earned their AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy certificate, the certificate may be converted to a title by submitting the Grandfather application with the $20 processing fee.
Puppies and their owners may still earn the “certificate only” by attending a 6-weeks AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class.

For the new official AKC title (includes a certificate), the dog must have an AKC, PAL, or AKC Canine Partners number.

Newly printed AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test forms in the Evaluator test kits include the “certificate only” and title options. The test form is given to the dog owner by the CGC Evaluator when the puppy passes the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class.

A while back at one of our regular meetings, I mentioned that I had been contacted by someone from the Board of Visitors of Old Dominion University concerning an outreach program for the students there. A board of visitors is the governing body that makes decisions about the institution's programs, budgets, policies, and other matters. The board of visitors is also known as the board of trustees.

I did not realize it at the time, but the person who contacted me is Mrs. Susan Allen, former First Lady of Virginia (Governor George Allen's wife) and a current ODU board member. She spoke highly of the Tidewater Kennel Club and its potential to support ODU students in a meaningful way. The BoV would like for TKC to be a part of a program to promote student mental health by allowing them to spend time with our dogs in a structured environment.

From Raquan Griffin, Student Representative, Board of Visitors, and student organizer of this event: "We will have a designated space set aside for all involved. In addition, on our first event our catering team volunteered to sponsor calling it "Treats & Pups with Tidewater Kennel Club" all surrounded around our student mental health. "

This is a tremendous opportunity for positive outreach and community support, and to establish a relationship with a great local institution. I earnestly hope that you will consider being a part of this effort. It's one of the key tenets of our club and it's right in our mission statement. We have a choice of one of three dates. The time will be the same for whichever date works best for us. They are hoping for up to ten dogs.

Time: 12:30PM-1:30PM

Dates: November 7th (Thursday), November 12th (Tuesday) , November 14th (Thursday)
Please let me know which date(s) work for you. We will choose the day with the most people available.

I will be available on any of the dates, and will be bringing two Border Collies.

Thanks,

Dave Thomas

P.S. If you are not a member of TKC, but would like to join us at this event, and have a dog that is good with people, let me know. We would love to have you.
