True! Puppies are born with their eyes and ears closed. Their eyes usually begin opening around 10โ€“14 days of age, and their hearing develops shortly afterward.

During those first few weeks, puppies rely heavily on their sense of touch and smell to find their mother and littermates.

Every cat has their own personality when it comes to affection.

Some love being held, some tolerate it for a few seconds, and others prefer to keep all four paws firmly on the ground. Paying attention to your cat's body language is the best way to know when they're comfortable.

So...which answer best describes your cat? Tell us your answer in the comments!

For most dogs, nail trims are needed every 3โ€“4 weeks, but the ideal schedule depends on how quickly their nails grow and how much they naturally wear them down.

If you hear your dog's nails clicking on the floor, it's usually a sign they're ready for a trim. Keeping nails at a healthy length helps prevent discomfort, joint strain, and broken nails.

While cats are descended from desert animals, today's house cats still rely on you to help keep them safe during hot weather.

Cats have limited ways to cool themselves. Unlike people, they only sweat through their paw pads and rely on grooming (evaporative cooling) to lower their body temperature. If they begin panting, they're already struggling to cool down, and it shouldn't be ignored.

Help your cat stay safe by keeping them indoors during the hottest parts of the day, providing plenty of fresh water, and making sure they always have access to cool, shaded areas.

Our future veterinarian is off to vet school! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿพ

Claire has brought so much energy, laughter, kindness, and compassion to the BTAH team, and while we are going to miss her tremendously, we couldnโ€™t be more excited to watch her take this next step toward becoming a veterinarian!

Claire, thank you for all the love and care youโ€™ve given our patients, their families, and your teammates. We know your bright personality and huge heart will make you an incredible doctor someday. ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿฉบ

Help us wish Claire good luck on her next adventure! Weโ€™re so proud of you, future DVM!

Yes. Biting is a normal part of kitten development. Kittens use play to learn about their environment and develop bite inhibition. While it may not feel very gentle, this is an important part of growing up.

The best approach is to redirect biting toward appropriate toys and avoid encouraging play with your hands or fingers.

With consistency and patience, most kittens outgrow this stage and learn to play more gently. If you have questions about your kitten's behavior, we're happy to help. Call us at (346) 515-5551.

Let's be honest...

To your dog, you're the favorite person in the world. You're the food provider, the walking buddy, the toy thrower, and the source of endless belly rubs.

If your dog had to describe you in one word, what do you think it would be?

Share your answer in the comments, we'd love to hear it!

When most people think of a wellness exam, they think about vaccines, but there's so much more happening during your pet's visit.

Every wellness exam starts with a conversation. We want to hear what you've noticed at home, whether it's changes in appetite, energy, behavior, or anything else that's been on your mind.

Next comes a thorough nose-to-tail physical exam where we evaluate your pet's eyes, ears, teeth, heart, lungs, skin, joints, weight, and overall health.

From there, we'll discuss preventive care like vaccines and parasite prevention based on your pet's lifestyle. Depending on their age and health, we may also recommend bloodwork or other screening tests that can help detect illness before symptoms appear.

Most importantly, wellness exams are your opportunity to ask questions. Whether you're wondering about nutrition, behavior, anxiety, or anything in between, we're here to help.

Every visit ends with a personalized plan because no two pets are exactly alike.

โค๏ธ Wellness care isn't just about preventing disease, it's about helping your pet enjoy a healthier, happier life with you.
