ATTENTION TO ALL DOG OWNERS!
Hiking with the Jacks/dogs is always fun. What is not fun however is the people that dont know how to control their dogs especially their very large dogs. We work hard to socialize our dogs and train them to be polite on trails/in public. We train in collars and they learn to walk polite on collars. We passed so many people on the trail with big dogs wearing harness and the dog losing their absolute mine with the handler being dragged unable to control their dog. One case was when we were passing another dog on stairs. The jacks were all being polite and moving along passing this dog without a second look. Rachel was behind me and had to shove the dogs head away with her foot when it got to close to one of our dogs and that was the fastest move she could make to asure our dogs were safe. The owner of that dog didnt even apologize or seem to realize how rude their dog was being.
Another instance. We were going up another set of stairs, this guy and his girlfriend had a large dog again on a harness with no collar. The dog almost slipped his harness trying to get away from his owner to get to my dogs. We kept our distance and I instructed the guy how to properly restrain his dog enough so we could pass saftly.
If you ever take your dog for a walk big or small, please do not have a harness on it, if we do make sure you have a collar so that you can properly restrain your animal. It is not only dangerous for that dog and the dogs hiking as well but it is also dangerous for all humans involved. I have many people that like to walk up to me with their dog telling me their dog is dog friendly. That may be true but I have a dog that can be dog aggressive at times especially when they get in her face.
as youu can see in the photo Momo and Pabu both have harnesses on, but for our walk Noah put his training collars on them.
Morally of the story, please train your dogs or have a way to properly restrain them and never approach another person when they have a dog as well. Be safe out there!
