Any foul smell coming from your pup is normally a telltale sign that something isn't right!
In fact, if you notice a bad smell emitting from their ears, it's a huge indicator that there could be a serious health problem.
But what is causing the smell?...
Well, here we've explained some causes of smelly dog ears...
Bacterial infections normally cause sweet-honey or rotten meal smells - not nice! Accompanied by swelling, redness, itching, head rubbing, and sometimes pain, bacterial infections need urgent medical attention, especially if you notice discharge, pus, or blood coming from the smelly ear.
Yeast Infection,
Found naturally in the stomach, the key to healthy yeast is balance... but when the immune system falters due to stress or illness, your pet's yeast can grow out of control, causing all sorts of issues - including bad smells! licking paws, red stains on coat caused from licking, often the skin or ears will often be said to smell like "corn chips". Adding a probiotic to your pet's diet can help keep their yeast levels balanced and healthy, so they can live a yeast infection-free life.
Big, Floppy Ears
No matter the breed, all canine ears are the same shape inside, with deep areas within the canal that are the perfect environment for fungus and bacteria to grow.
