Cat Nap Lodge is a small cat rescue located in Richland, MI. We are not a shelter, we are a home. The cats and kittens in the care of our volunteers are treated and cared for as members of our family, until they have a family of their own. Our mission is to reduce the homele

ss cat population by bringing the lost indoors and finding them loving homes as well as educating the community about the necessity of spaying and neutering their pets. Our number one priority is to provide our cats and kittens with quality and consistent medical care, nutrition and social enrichment within a loving home. Because we focus on the quality of our care, we limit the number of cats and kittens that we take in to those who need us the most. These include the dumpster babies, the found in a cardboard box babies, the orphaned and alone babies, and many other sad stories too numerous to count. We surround all of our cats and kittens with love, just as we would our own children. And then, when the right family comes along who will care for them and love them just as we have, we tearfully say goodbye. Our one consolation is that every time we adopt out a baby, we are able to take in another one who needs us. When you adopt a cat from Cat Nap Lodge you are saving two lives. The cat you are taking home and the one we take in after. We cordially invite you into our center to visit and play with our many feline family members. However, to avoid undue stress on the cats and visitors alike, appointments are required. So please call ahead to make an appointment.

Meet the new guy, Nigel. This fluffy lover boy came to us infested with fleas and a horrible skin infection. Now that the fleas are gone and his skin is clearing up he has become a delightful companion! He will be available for adoption later this month.

I wanted to give you an update on Marty. He did great for his neuter and is home on pain meds and eating everything in sight. We did get some answers today.
We know Marty was injured when he was picked up by his head by a large animal (most likely a dog) and shaken. The bite resulted in a skull fracture along the bridge of his nose and the shaking resulted in extensive damage to his neck and larynx. In a cat, the area around the larynx, or voice box, is supported by a series of small bones as well as cartilage. As those tiny bones in his throat healed they fused in place making him unable to lift his chin. Dr. Emily couldn't even move his chin up when he was sedated. This is why he eats off the floor and doesn't look up to track anything. He does have some pain, so we are exploring pain management options. We are also going to accommodate his unique eating posture so it is easier for him to get enough to eat. We also believe that he suffered some spinal cord damage at the base of his brain stem. This is what is causing his mobility and coordination issues. We will post updates as we know more. Thanks for all the well wishes!

Please keep our sweet boy Marty in your thoughts as he heads to Gull Lake Animal Hospital tomorrow for some further evaluation. He has been struggling more and more with his mobility and his sinuses. We fear there may have been a larger impact from his fractured skull than we originally thought.

This sweet young Mommy was still a kitten herself when she had 7 kittens last night. Four of them were still born, three of them went to a bottle feeder to be cared for. Now This sweet girl can enjoy being a kitten herself! Rescues can't do the work alone. You can help! If you feed it, fix it! Help reduce the over population and suffering. Together we save lives!
