🤠 Tack Talk Tuesday — Is your saddle pad working hard enough for your performance horse?

For a trail horse or casual rider, almost any decent pad will do. But for a horse working hard in the arena — reining, cutting, roping, barrel racing — the right saddle pad makes a real difference in comfort, performance, and long-term soundness.

Here's what to look for:

1️⃣ IMPACT ABSORPTION
Performance horses stop hard, turn sharp, and carry a rider through intense athletic movements. A pad with real shock absorption protects the back and spine from repetitive stress. Look for memory foam or high-density foam core pads like the Professional Choice SMx Air Ride or Reinsman Contour+.

2️⃣ FIT & WITHER CLEARANCE
No matter how good a pad is, if it bridges or puts pressure on the withers your horse will suffer. Look for pads with contoured shape or shim pocket systems that let you customize the fit.

3️⃣ BREATHABILITY & HEAT DISSIPATION
A pad that traps heat causes discomfort and can lead to back soreness over time. Professional Choice 2X Cool technology and wool pads are both excellent for keeping the back cool during hard work.
