🦃 Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips 🐾
As we gather to celebrate the holiday, please keep these important safety reminders in mind to help protect your pets:
• Avoid toxic foods such as onions, garlic, grapes/raisins, chocolate, xylitol, and all alcoholic beverages.
• Do not offer cooked turkey bones, as they can splinter and cause serious internal injury.
• Limit rich and fatty foods including turkey skin, gravy, ham, and heavy casseroles to prevent gastrointestinal upset or pancreatitis.
• Provide safe alternatives like plain turkey (no seasonings), green beans, carrots, and plain pumpkin (no spices).
• Secure all trash to keep pets away from scraps, bones, and food packaging.
• Offer a quiet, comfortable space for pets who may become stressed with guests or increased activity.
• Monitor exterior doors to prevent accidental escapes, and ensure identification and microchips are current.
• Keep candles, potpourri, and small décor items out of reach.
• Store hazardous items such as trussing string, foil, and plastic wrap safely away from pets.
• Know your nearest emergency veterinary hospital’s holiday hours should you need assistance.
Wishing you and your pets a safe, healthy, and happy Thanksgiving 🧡🐾!
