Many of you may remember Steve from when he was the reptile department manager here. He will be selling feeder insects and frozen rodents here in Rhinelander, and will hopefully have a storefront soon but will do pick up arrangements in the meantime.

As everyone may know now that Northwoods Pets in Rhinelander will be closing. I know that many in the community and even some from afar have relied on the store for their feeder bugs, frozen rodents, reptile supplies, reptiles, fish food, fish supplies, and fish. SS Corns and Exotics will be starting to offer these items once the supplies are gone from Northwoods Pets. We are currently in the process of getting a store front but in the mean time we can be messaged emailed, or texted with what is needed and schedule a pick up time. Though I know this is an extra step for everyone it will only be temporary until we have a store front and it will still be better than driving all the way to Antigo or Wausau.

📣 Important Announcement 🐾

After 6 wonderful years serving our community, it’s with heavy hearts that we share the news: due to rising expenses and declining sales, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our pet store.

We are incredibly grateful for your support, loyalty, and love over the years — it’s meant the world to us. ❤️

Over the next month, we’ll be offering progressive discounts to help our inventory find good homes, starting with 20% off next week. It’s a great time to stock up on essentials, gifts, and supplies while supporting our final days. At this time we will not be discounting aquatic livestock, live animals or feeder insects and frozen rodents.

🐠 🦗We will do our best to keep feeder insects and fish in stock through the end of July for those who rely on us.

Thank you again for being part of our story. 🐾 We hope to see you in the coming weeks as we wrap up this chapter of our lives.

Fireworks can be fun for us—but stressful for our pets. With loud booms and bright flashes, many dogs, cats, and small animals experience anxiety during summer celebrations.

Here are a few tips to help keep your pet calm:

🐾 Create a cozy, quiet space indoors with familiar bedding and toys.

🎶 Use soothing sounds like white noise or calming music to mask the noise.

🧥 Consider calming aids like calming supplements, anxiety wraps or pheromone diffusers.

🍖 Give them a safe chew or treat to help distract and comfort them. Enrichment toys such as lick mats or treat stuffers are a great option.

We are going to be 🔥cooking🔥 this weekend. Stay informed and alert to be sure the the only hot dogs in your life are the ones on the grill 🌭.

If you have to travel, be sure to keep the AC on and NEVER leave your dog in the car in this heat. Not even for a minute. Just don't do it.

Be sure to walk your dogs in the early morning or at night. Cement and concrete will be hot hot hot during daylight hours and dog's paws can burn in a matter of minutes. If it's too hot for you to hold your hand to the surface for 7 second, it's too hot for dog paws.

🐾To add an extra layer of protection, use a paw balm containing bees wax before walks and at the end of the day to keep those toe beans safe and hydrated 🐾.

Are you planning a vacation and worried about finding someone to care for your small pet, bird, or replie?

We have you covered!

Boarding is $10 a day, with a one time $20 charge if you cannot provide an enclosure. (We do ask that birds come with their enclosure as they are more prone to stress in new environments.)

Call in advance if you need to board with us and know your pet is getting everything they need from a team you can trust!

This is your mid season reminder that wild turtles want to stay wild.

Females are laying eggs, babies are hatching, and it's all a part of nature. Unfortunately our yard and roads are in their territory and we cross paths.

If you find a turtle on the road, wait for a time when it is safe to help them and gently relocate them in the direction they were headed. Do not move them from the general area you found them.

If you find a baby, let it go about its turtle business.

Turtles are cute. They will survive a lot of things. But to properly keep them requires a lot of space, lighting, a balanced diet, and a lot of cleaning for 15+ years. It's a lot of money and time to keep it healthy and happy, not just alive.

If you really love turtles, let them stay wild.
