We had a great training session with 7 pups tracking rabbits and one found some quail even. Pups were really great hanging around each other. I’m always amazed at how little pups progress with these set ups. Rhonda Strong Wiley

🐗 Breed of the Week: Deutsch-Drahthaar

The Deutsch-Drahthaar was developed in Germany during the late 1800s and early 1900s with one goal: create the ultimate all-around hunting dog.

Rather than breeding for appearance, early breeders combined several proven hunting breeds—including the Pudelpointer, Griffon, Stichelhaar, and Deutsch-Kurzhaar—to produce a dog that could point upland birds, retrieve waterfowl, track wounded game, and work both feather and fur with confidence.

From the beginning, breeding decisions have emphasized performance, health, temperament, and proven hunting ability through rigorous testing.

This isn’t a breed developed for the show ring. It’s a breed developed for the field.

Whether in cattails, thick timber, open prairie, or icy water, the Deutsch-Drahthaar was bred to work alongside its handler in nearly every hunting situation.

J Litter started going home this past weekend. I am very excited for them and their new families. The entire litter is within about 2 hours or less which should make for some good training days ahead.
