Glory Days was honored to have not one, but two riders selected for this year’s essay contests for the Shannon Hendrickson Memorial Grant. Shannon left an amazing legacy behind her of outstanding horsemanship and youth participation in our sport, and it was such an honor to have two of our riders recognized for the very things Shannon stood for.
As a trainer, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others, wishing you were doing more, or competing at a higher level. I spend a lot of time working to be better for my students and horses, and wondering where I would be if I’d had different opportunities, more financial support, or chosen a different path on my professional journey.
Hearing the words each of these talented and driven young riders had to say about what riding has taught them about horsemanship, teamwork, and being a better person, gave me an incredible shift of perspective. What an honor it is to be able to foster and inspire youth involvement in this sport that I love so much; to be able to teach them everything I know and love about the sport and the incredible horses we get to do it with; while continuing to pursue my own dreams is the biggest honor I can imagine.
Thank you and .n.canter for your beautiful essays and your dedication to taking the best care of your horses and teammates, and the people around you. It is such an honor to share my passion with each of you.
Thank you and Eve Willet Consulting for your dedication to supporting young riders and trainers.
