Introducing Deku a sweet, about 7 year old neutered Shiba boy who was surrendered to SFACC because his owners could not afford to get his chronic allergies treated. He came in with a cone, but after a Cytopoint injection he is now happy and not itching! Most likely, his allergies were environmental or food related. All he needs now is a good bath and a loving home to bring him back to 100%! Deku is located on the San Francisco Bay Area. Please PM us if this sweet guy touches your heart and you can help him!

Please say hello to Sahana. In Japanese this name (loosely) signifies endurance, patience and to bloom. Which makes this a perfect name for this poor Shiba. Sahana was on the loose, dodging in and out of freeway and golf course traffic for at least a week. She evaded all attempts to catch her, until Susan Packer of K9 ReUnite was able to lure her with tasty meatballs! She is now SCAC&C, awaiting her new life. She has been spayed, xrayed and evaluated for the lacerations and limping she had when she arrived. Sahana is very wary of attention, but has exhibited no signs of aggression. NNSR is looking for a soft landing spot for her. A quiet home that will give her a chance to realize she is safe and loved. If you (or know of someone) are able to help her, please PM us ASAP.

Introducing Moxie, a 2 1/2 year old Shiba girl. She lives with her humans and a 7 year old docile Shiba boy. Since she arrived in the house, she's been the dominant Shiba. She attended Doggie Boot Camp for 6 weeks last year to help modify her behavior. However, recently her aggressive behavior towards her Shiba brother has become too much for her owners to handle. They are also trying to start a family, and are worried about the dynamic/power structure that might arise when the baby comes, so they've decided to rehome her. Moxie was a bit of an anxious puppy, and was not socialized well enough to build up her resilience. At home with her people (when her Shiba bro is in another room) she is happy, calm and playful. While she loves running and hiking with them, new people and situations are anxiety provoking for her. Her ideal situation would be as an only dog with an experienced Shiba owner who has the time and patience to earn her trust and build her confidence. She loves hanging out in the sun, is trained to use a doggie door, and has enough energy to fetch a ball all day! She is not crate-trained, but is fine in an X-pen when she needs to be contained. Please PM us if you think you could give this girl a second chance at an awesome life!

Hello NNSR friends! May I please introduce myself? I’m Ponyo, a sweet, smart and sassy 6 month old Shiba girl! My start in life has been challenging…my Shiba mom lived with her humans, who never spayed her. About a year ago, they brought a Shiba boy into their house. And…uhh…yaa…duh…
I and a couple other puppies happened. My humans were being evicted from their home, and tied me to a chair while they were getting ready to take me to the pound. A really nice lady saw me and rescued me. She’s a vet tech and brought me up to date with all my shots. She would love to keep me, but she works long hours and has two cats who don’t appreciate my enthusiasm to play with (okay, chase) them.

I’m potty & crate trained, and am going to be spayed on Tuesday. My foster mom says I’m a great candidate for an owner who wants to work with her Shiba. I will thrive with a person who wants to challenge and work with me to conquer Agility, Fast Cat and/or Barn Hunt. (With my freckled paws, I’ll never get my Conformation title!) If anyone is interested in helping me achieve my pawsome Shiba potential, please PM NNSR!

Who remembers Kobe, the young Shiba that we rehomed in July? Sadly, he needs to be rehomed again. He is a sweet boy, but has developed a strong resource guarding habit, resulting in biting incidents with his humom and hudad. They love Kobe, but realize he needs a different environment with a strong Alpha human who can establish trust and respect. Additionally, he been on his own while his owners teach and has developed a bit of separation anxiety. Other than this, he’s a sweetheart. He needs a home with a very experienced Shiba owner who is able to work through his resource guarding issues with positive reinforcement and consistenty. Ideally, with a human who is around most of the time to develop trust and establish the appropriate hierarchy. Absolutely no children. A female Shiba would be ideal as both a companion and role model. Please PM us ASAP if you can help Kobe begin a new chapter in his short life.

Today is a very sad day for Northern Nevada Shiba Rescue. JackJack came to live with us in 2009, he was an owner surrender that claimed he had his back leg slammed in a car door. The reality was that he had a severe distrust for all humans. He loved to play with the other dogs, but in the house he wanted to be in his crib. He would let us hold him, but only for a few seconds. It was very sad that he never got over the abuse he must have suffered as a puppy. He lived for 16 years and today his little body couldn't go on. Sadly, I couldn't be there with him to say goodbye, but he was in good company and not alone. We will miss him but look forward to seeing him again on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Please meet Oliver. A 3 year old Shiba who was humanely caught in Sunnyvale by K9Reunite. As you can see by his exposed ribs, he’s either been on his own for a long time or severely neglected. He’s not chipped and has been very skittish when he came into the shelter. His stray hold is up, and the shelter would like to release him to us. He’s made good progress with the behavioral team and is slowly learning how to trust people. We are looking for a foster who can work slowly with him to build his confidence and bring him back to good health. He’s okay with small dogs but has not been tested with big dogs. Ideally, he should be in a quiet home where he can be reintroduced to consistent and calm attention to help him gain confidence while he also gains some much needed weight. If you know of someone who might be able to help this poor boy, please PM us.

We’ve been sprung! Up to date with all our vaccinations and ready for our next chapter with our amazing foster mom!
Thank you to the Good Samaritan who found us and brought us to safety!

Please say hello to Bonzai and Geisha! These 12 week old pups were found in a box yesterday and a Good Samaritan delivered them to San Francisco Animal Care & Control. NNSR has a long history of working with SFACC, so they reached out to us to see if we could help, as these cuties are definitely part Shiba! They are only bonded as littermates, so they can be fostered or adopted independently. We are hoping that one of these pups grabs your heart! Please PM us if you can help these cute pups find their furever homes!
P.S. Bonzai is the bouncy boy…Geisha, with her long hair is the more reserved girl.

Introducing Kobe, a very young intact male, surrendered to the Mariposa County Shelter, one day after he was bought off of Craig’s List. The new owner said that Kobe bit him while he was wrestling with Kobe, and he didn’t want to keep him. Skin was broken, so Kobe was put into mandatory quarantine, as there was no proof of a rabies vaccination. The MCS staff thought something was amiss with the story and the owner, as Kobe seemed very sweet during the days of his quarantine. MCS is a high kill shelter, without a neutering clinic, so he could not be directly rehomed, therefore he’d be euthanized. Thankfully, MCS staff reached out to an all breed rescue called Friends of the Animal Community in Sonora, that brought him to safety and contacted us. We will be picking him up this week, bringing him up to date with all vaccinations and getting him neutered. Given that we have yet to assess him (but are told that he is “a sweetheart” and wags his tail at other dogs) we are hopeful that he will thrive with an experienced Shiba owner. His ideal home will not have young children and if there is another dog, it should be a female. If you are interested in meeting or fostering this cutie, please send us a PM.
