Meet Mike Wazowski! 👁️💚

This sweet boy had a rough start when he arrived with a severe eye infection. Thanks to his incredible foster parent and our dedicated clinic team, he is feeling so much better! He can't see out of his right eye, but he doesn't let that stop him from playing, snacking, and hanging out with his buddy Sulley.

WE MADE ROOM — AND YOU HELPED US FILL IT WITH MORE LIVES TO SAVE!

What an incredible Clear the Shelters weekend! 87 cats and kittens found loving homes at Nine Lives!

But here’s what 87 adoptions really means.

Every adoption opens a space. Every open space gives us the ability to say YES to another cat or kitten who needs us.

And we did exactly that.

After almost clearing our shelter last weekend, we made room to rescue 60 NEW cats and kittens this week — coming to Nine Lives from high-risk, overcrowded, and vulnerable situations.

You made that possible.

By adopting, sharing our posts, supporting our work, and showing up for Nine Lives, you gave us the ability to turn around and save even more lives.

And now? We need to do it all over again!

Our rooms are filling up with some seriously adorable new faces, and every one of them needs a home. Come adopt one of these babies — and you'll make room for the next life waiting for us to say YES.

What an incredible Clear the Shelters weekend at Nine Lives!

Over the course of the weekend, 87 cats and kittens found their furever homes — and our staff and volunteers are officially exhausted, a little hoarse, and probably still dreaming about adoption paperwork. But we couldn’t be happier.

Clear the Shelters is about so much more than one busy weekend. Every adoption opens up space for another cat or kitten who needs us. It means another kennel available for a frightened cat sitting in an overcrowded municipal shelter. Another foster home ready for a litter of kittens. Another opportunity for Nine Lives to say YES when an at-risk animal needs somewhere to go.

And that’s exactly what happens next.

After an extraordinary weekend, our team was back at it on Monday — tired, but in fighting form — preparing to welcome the next round of at-risk cats and kittens who can now come through our doors because our community helped create the space to save them.

That is the real power of adoption. When one cat goes home, another gets a chance.

Beyond the Superstition: The True Legacy of the House Panther 🐾

Think black cats are unlucky? History strongly disagrees!

For generations, Western folklore painted black cats in a spooky light. But across the globe, history tells a very different story—one where these sleek, majestic "House Panthers" are celebrated as the ultimate bringers of protection, prosperity, and joy:

Japan: Believed to bring extraordinary good luck, attract suitors for single women, and ward off negative energy.

Great Britain & Scotland: A black cat arriving on your porch is a sign of incoming prosperity and good fortune.

Maritime History: Sailors and fishermen’s wives trusted black cats to ensure safe travels at sea and a peaceful return home.

Ancient Egypt: Dark felines were honored as living representations of the goddess Bastet, bringing protection and divine favor.

💉 NEW SPACES, BIGGER IMPACT: A Look Inside Our Surgical Center! 🐾

When we moved into our new location, our main goal was simple: save more lives.
Today, we're thrilled to share what that new space has made possible!

Thanks to upgraded equipment, optimized medical workflows, and a streamlined layout, our vet team has dramatically boosted efficiency without ever sacrificing the gold standard of care our patients deserve.

🏥 Before: ~15 - 25 spay/neuter surgeries a day
🏥 NOW: ~40 - 65 spay/neuter surgeries every day!

That means about 200 - 300 cats every week are getting life-saving, high-quality veterinary care—preventing unwanted litters, improving community cat health, and easing the burden on local rescues.

30+ LA Cats Just Arrived at Nine Lives! 🐾

Right now, shelters across California are facing a massive overpopulation crisis. When local facilities reach critical capacity, lives are put at serious risk simply because there isn't enough room.

But when rescues team up, incredible things happen!

Today, we partnered with our amazing friends at Stray Cat Alliance for a major rescue transport, bringing over 30 cats from Los Angeles straight into our care at Nine Lives.

As soon as the transport arrived, our team jumped into action—getting every single cat health-checked, microchipped, vaccinated, and tucked into a warm, cozy bed.
