Lord knows I've made my mistakes, but I truly try to learn from them and not repeat them. It's a slow (and sometimes heartbreaking) process, but the horses deserve better. That's what fuels me. I'm building foundations and filling in the holes they came to me with to the best of my abilities. Horses are a perpetual education. True partnership is what I'm striving for every day - it may mean not being out there showing, but the real prize is seeing the horses happy and heard. Because they're all unicorns in their own way and I'm lucky to be a part of their lives. ❤🦄

Eventer Matt Brown and FEI dressage rider Cecily Clark share a candid open letter on horse welfare, training culture, accountability, and change in equestrian sport.

This is why I’m so passionate about podiatry and do such in-depth measurements and reports. And why I’m so detailed with dentistry, saddle fit and bodywork - it’s a “whole horse” approach that MUST be used when we care for them!!

Word!

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗷𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀?

Because every “neat” moment you see in the ring - the clean flying change, the tidy rollback, the effortless distance - is built on a mountain of basics: rhythm, balance, straightness, clarity, repetition, and trust.

The real magic lives in the base of the pyramid - not the shiny bit at the top.

Advanced work only works when the foundations feel solid, repeatable, and understood by both horse and rider.
And that’s exactly what creates the horses who are genuinely 𝘧𝘶𝘯 to ride… the ones who jump easily, land balanced, turn like a dream, and both accelerate and wait when you ask.

So yes, I love riding the advanced stuff too.
But I love the basics more - 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦.

It really is about enjoying the journey and developing the partnership…❤️🦄https://www.facebook.com/100090895338988/posts...

The Path Never Ends—A Lifelong Journey With Horses

Every morning, as I walk out to the pasture, I am reminded that my journey with horses is a living, evolving path—one that has no true end. There was a time when I thought horsemanship was about reaching certain milestones: mastering groundwork, achieving a flawless ride, or having a perfectly “trained” partner. But over the years, the horses have gently unraveled that illusion.

The Path of the Horse is not about reaching a destination. It’s about walking alongside these remarkable beings and allowing them to be our companions and teachers, every step of the way. Horses hold a mirror to what is real in us. They feel every joy, every tension, every hope we bring to them. Instead of judging us for our flaws, they invite us to bring our whole selves—imperfect and growing—into every encounter.

What I’ve come to realize is that every day with horses is a new lesson in humility and gratitude. Some days, I feel like I’ve made progress; other days, I am reminded how much I still have to learn. The horses don’t care about accolades or ribbons or titles. They care about presence. They care about kindness, clarity, and true partnership.

The most profound moments have come when I slow down and listen—really listen—to the horse in front of me. When I let go of my expectations and ask, “What do you want to show me today?” I am always met with surprising wisdom and patience. Horses teach us that connection is not forced; it’s invited and built gradually, layer by layer, moment by moment.

As you walk your own path with horses—whether you are just starting out or are many years into the journey—I encourage you to enjoy the unfolding. Be curious, and gentle with yourself. Celebrate the small steps, the quiet moments, and the subtle shifts. Know that, in the world of horses, every day is a new chapter, and there is no finish line. The path never ends, and that is where the magic lives.

🐴✨ Our horses don’t lie. Their bodies speak louder than words — bracing, stiffness, evasions, or discomfort are not “normal.” If something isn’t right, listen. Be their guardian, not their battle. Every horse deserves to be heard. 💕

Oh how true this is! I'm grateful to all of my clients who are willing to take the time to build on a solid foundation, because without that, it always comes back to bite you. Most unfortunately, it's the horse who suffers if we don't go at the pace that each horse needs and address the issues (medical or other) they have. Thank you Cara Blanchard for putting this so eloquently! 🦄❣️

In some ways it’s disappointing being a trainer who puts the horse first, goes at their pace, does an incredible amount of useful ground work, focuses on biomechanics and correct movement and wants the horse to feel happy and confident.

It’s hard to find clients who not only want the same thing, but realize that doing it correctly takes time.

Everyone is in a race to the show ring to try to beat the other guy.

Every horse I train gets worked with at their pace. 10 minutes here and 15 minutes there and it’s little bits at a time. They get the days off that they need. I never wear them out, drill or over do it. I want them to get it, think about and come back again fresh in the afternoon or the next morning to try the next step for a few minutes. It’s slow and steady building blocks with me.

There’s no fluff and frill. There’s no 5 and 6 year olds practicing Grand Prix movements - that takes years and how many years depends on each individual horse.

There’s no race to the show ring. No competition to see who can climb the levels the fastest.

It’s about building a happy, healthy athlete who feels confident in their body and in their work. Those are the horses who last - physically, mentally and emotionally. Those are the horses that I train and put out into the world.

I wish more people were in it for the right reasons.

The horse first. The date of the show is unimportant.
