I get asked this all the time,
and I promise, I understand the question.
If I was getting a puppy, Iโd want to see everything too. Where theyโre raised, meet the mom, just make sure it all feels right.
So I get it ๐ค
But there are a few reasons I donโt allow visitors into my homeโฆ and theyโre very intentional.
First letโs talk about something most people donโt even think aboutโฆ
your shoes.
Anything youโve stepped in vet offices, pet stores, gas stations, parks, even your own yard can carry things like parvo, giardia, coccidia.
You wonโt see it. You wonโt know itโs there.
But all it takes is one visit, one exposureโฆ
and now itโs inside with a litter of puppies whose immune systems are still developing.
And once something like that is brought in, itโs not just โclean it and move on.โ
It spreads fast.
Itโs expensive to treat.
And in worst cases you can lose an entire litter.
Thatโs not a risk Iโm willing to take. Ever.
And then thereโs the part people donโt always want to think aboutโฆ
safety.
Cases like the Paul Peavey case and the Florida dognapping shootout are a big reason a lot of breeders have changed how they do things.
To put it simply,
these werenโt just โsomeone tried to steal a dogโ situations.
Homes were targeted.
People were followed.
Dogs were stolen for resale or breeding.
And in one of these cases, it escalated into taking someoneโs life.
All because someone knew where the dogs were.
Thatโs real life. Not just something you see online.
And when youโre raising multiple dogs and litters you have to think about protecting them long-term, not just in the moment.
So for me, it comes down to this:
Iโm not running a storefront with people coming in and out all day.
These puppies are born and raised in my home.
Theyโre part of my family and my daily life.
And itโs my job to protect that environment even if itโs not what everyone expects.
That being said, I also never want anyone to
feel like theyโre going into this blindly.
So I offer other ways for you to see everything.
We can FaceTime so you can see mom, the puppies, and how theyโre being raised in real time.
I send constant photo and video updates.
And we do public meet-ups so you can meet your puppy and the parents safely before bringing them home.
At the end of the day, itโs not about being unwelcoming.
Itโs about being protective.
Of my dogs.
Of my puppies.
Of my family
And of something Iโve worked really hard to build.
And Iโll always choose that ๐ค
