What to Know Before Bringing Home a Dachshund 🐶

Thinking about adding a dachshund to your family? These little long bodies come with big personalities — and it’s so important to know what to expect before bringing one home! 🏡

Here are a few things every future doxie parent should know 👇

💖 They’re loyal and loving… sometimes a little too much!
Dachshunds are known to form strong bonds with their people. They love being part of your daily life — snuggles, walks, car rides, you name it! Separation anxiety can happen if they’re left alone too long, so they do best in homes where someone’s around often.

🐾 Training takes patience (and treats 🍖).
These smart pups have a bit of a stubborn streak. Positive reinforcement and consistency go a long way — make training fun and rewarding!

🏃‍♀️ Small legs, big energy!
Don’t let their size fool you — dachshunds are hunters at heart. They love to dig, chase, and explore. Daily playtime and mental stimulation are key to keeping them happy (and out of trouble!).

🛏️ Protect those backs!
Because of their long spines, it’s important to avoid stairs and jumping off furniture. Use ramps when possible and always support their body when holding them.

🧡 Grooming and maintenance.
Longhaired doxies need regular brushing to keep their coats soft and tangle-free, while all varieties benefit from nail trims and dental care.
