Flower Valley Morgan Farm We are the proud producers of "Kells" Morgans - having bred Morgans for family pleasure for over 35 years. Since retiring, we no longer stand a stallion.

Though we are pretty much retired, occasionally still have a foal. Interested in hearing from our friends interested in Morgans. Our 50 acre farm is nestled in the bluffs of the Mississippi River valley, just outside Red Wing in southeastern Minnesota. Our hilly pastures offer good natural exercise for our Morgans and good shelter from the cold Minnesota winters. Our horses are outside pretty much

always as we just have a small 3 stall barn, which is reserved for foaling. How did our love affair with the Morgan begin……

I had grown up with horses – mostly grades - and as an adult purchased my own grade mare and had a couple Arabian geldings that we trained to ride and drive. Then over 40 years ago, after having seen my first Morgan stallion at a stallion service auction, I was hooked. I purchased the breeding service and bred my grade mare; the result being a colt of definite Morgan type. Of course a half-Morgan was not enough for me and the search for a purebred followed. We purchased a couple Morgan mares and raised a couple nice foals, but having learned more about breed type and correct conformation, replaced these first mares with what would basically be our foundation mares – Pittridge Shonda and Coal Creek Onyx. Both these mares lived long and productive lives and we are fortunate to have descendants. While taking our mares to be bred at Spring Hills Farm, we just happened upon our senior stallion, Spring Hills K C L, then a two year old and had the opportunity to buy him. We hadn’t planned to own a stallion, but couldn’t resist him, and he has been the perfect stallion. Though we don’t show, KC has been used for trailriding and driving, besides breeding. KC has sired well over 100 foals and was our introduction to the “sport” bred Morgan. We breed for “sport” movement, exceptional disposition, good type and conformation. We have sold over 75 Morgans in the past 30 years and produce a couple exceptional foals each year. Upon KC’s retirement his son, Kells Above R Xpectations filled his breeding duties following in KC’s foot steps. In 1997 we purchased RC Black Tie Affair (Funquest Cafallero x Miss Prairie Queen) as a yearling and he has produced many wonderful typy foals with exceptional fun personalities. KC and Tie have gone to greener pastures, and Jake now stands at stud in Ohio. We produce one to two foals a year now.

Good information. We try to get our hay up without rain, but some rain after it’s freshly cut doesn’t put us off. It’s been a struggle to get at our 2nd crop due to rain.

🌧 Rained-On Hay: Is It Still Good for Horses? 🐴

Lately, many horse owners and hay suppliers have been battling rain while making hay. Don’t be too quick to write off hay that was rained on in the field, dried, and then baled — it may still be suitable forage for horses.

The quality of rained-on hay depends on a few key factors. Forage quality tends to be greatest if:
✅ Rain fell soon after cutting, before much drying occurred;
✅ It was a single rain event, not prolonged or lasting several days;
✅ Rain was intense but short, rather than long and light; and
✅ The hay hasn’t been rewetted multiple times

Interestingly, rained-on hay often has reduced carbohydrate content and may be a safer choice for horses prone to laminitis or metabolic disorders.

As always, we recommend testing hay for its nutrient content, which can be especially helpful when determining the quality of rained-on hay. 🌾🔬

SOLD — Who wants a really nice future trail mount and forever friend. Due to no fault of his own, Eoghan, is available for sale again and residing with us. Kells Eoghan It All To U (Whippoorwill Aristocrat x Kells Maija Blessed Event) - 3 year old black, 15.2 hand gelding who is being offered for $3,500. Eoghan (Oh-in) means Noble Born. He’s good for the farrier and vet, up to date on vaccinations, and has a current coggins. He’s calm, intelligent, friendly, easy to walk up to and halter. Eoghan does have a slight twist to a front foot, is sound, but may need corrective shoeing, thus he may not be a good candidate for jumping, dressage or high stress sport disciplines. I’m sure he’d be an awesome driving option. Please PM me if you have questions or any interest.

Meet Lido - Stonebridge Alidoro
(Spring Hills K C L x Stonebridge Juliette) -
a 25 year old palomino Morgan gelding, 14.1 hands.
Lido’s owner isn’t in a position to continue to care for him any longer, and is looking for a perfect new home for him, not $. Lido is rideable having recently been on a 2 hour trail ride (he loves to get out). Can be strong and forward on trails, so probably not for a rank beginner without supervision. Has been used on lunge line & led with inexperienced adults & children. Never a buck. Not barn sour. Gets along with other horses as has been boarded.
Maintenance needed: Cushings which has been controlled with a pill everyday.
