🐾 Rex needs your help — his fight just got harder
On June 19th, Rex came to us from an overcrowded shelter in South Texas. He was wheezing so badly we rushed him straight to our vet. What we found broke our hearts: a bacterial skin infection, pneumonia in both lungs, coccidia, and hookworms. His white blood cell count was over 50,000 — it should be under 2,000.
Since then, Rex has been on two rounds of antibiotics, parasite treatment, and medicated baths twice a week (he even needs gabapentin beforehand because his skin is so raw and sensitive).
We've taken him back for rechecks on 6/26 and again today, 7/3 — and instead of improving, his bloodwork and lung X-rays are getting worse. Our vet now suspects the pneumonia may be fungal. We've sent off testing to confirm, but results can take up to two weeks, and if it's fungal, the treatment is long and hard on his already taxed body.
We've already spent over $2,000 on Rex's care, and we're now covering costs out of our own pockets.
Rex didn't ask for any of this. He just needs a chance. If you're able to chip in — $10, $25, anything — it goes straight to his vet bills. And if you can't donate, a share goes a long way too. 💛
