🌽🐾 Happy ! We have a story full of corn-sequences!😉🐾🌽
Meet Faith — a sweet, happy-go-lucky Labrador mix who recently gave her family quite a scare. Last week, Faith decided a corn cob looked ear-resistible. 🍴 Unfortunately, corn cobs don’t break down in the stomach and can cause dangerous blockages in a dog’s digestive tract. Left untreated, these blockages can lead to severe illness and even be life-threatening.
Not long after her snack, poor Faith began vomiting and couldn’t keep any food down. Her family brought her to us right away, and after X-rays and monitoring, it became clear that the corn cob wasn’t moving along. Faith underwent foreign body surgery to safely remove it, and thanks to quick action, she’s now back to her happy, tail-wagging self! 💛
✨Late summer and fall = corn on the cob season 🌽 … and corn cobs are everywhere — at picnics, cookouts, trash cans, and compost piles. Dogs may love the smell (and the leftover butter), but even a small piece of cob can get stuck in the stomach or intestines, blocking the passage of food and water.
Always dispose of corn cobs securely and keep them out of reach of curious pets. If your dog eats one, don’t wait for symptoms — call your vet immediately. Early intervention can mean the difference between simple monitoring and major surgery.
