The 4th of July poses significant risks for dogs, with a 30% increase in lost pets during this time, making July 5th the busiest day for animal shelters. Here are 5 tips to keep your canine safe on the 4th of July.🇺🇸🎆🐾

1. To keep your canine safe, one effective method is to desensitize them to the sound of fireworks. This can be done by playing sound recordings of fireworks during playtime, helping your dog associate the noise with positive experiences.
2. To help your dog feel safe during fireworks, consider providing a crate as a secure space. Anxious dogs often find comfort in the enclosed environment of a crate. To enhance coziness, add fuzzy blankets and a favorite stuffed toy to make it more inviting.
3. Distract with Toys: Use treat-dispensing toys or Kong balls filled with peanut butter to keep your dog engaged and focused on play during the noise.
4. Outfit Your Dog with Collar & Tags: Ensure your dog has an updated collar with tags that include your contact information. Having recent photos on hand can also be helpful in case they get lost
5. Stay Home (If Possible): Your dog will feel most secure with you nearby, so if you can, try to stay home to provide comfort during the fireworks.

Here’s to a safe 4th of July for both you and your canine.

Join us tomorrow for a distemper/parvo vaccine clinic! We are seeing distemper cases come into the shelter on a regular basis, and the risk to unvaccinated pets is high. Protect your dog by vaccinating them! Vaccines are available tomorrow, Friday, April 18, from 8am to 2pm.

Please note, rabies vaccines will not be available at this clinic. We will post information about additional vaccine clinics as soon as possible.

***450 boxes left to go!***

As many of you are aware, when I’m not grooming dogs, I’m leading Girl Scout troops! This is my Scout. She has set a goal of selling 2000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies again this year. We have two weeks left to sell, and she still has 800 boxes to go to reach her goal. She wants to use her cookie proceeds to support her troop doing fun activities like camping, as well as community service projects. She’s also earning money to go to Japan in 2027. If you would like to help support her and her troop and get some yummy cookies as well, you can order from the link below and we can deliver them to you! We deliver in the Red Bluff area. Thank you so much for your support!
