Crate your dogs when you aren’t home!

On average, dogs have the intelligence of a 2-4year old (varies by breed and individual of course and there are outliers, on both ends 😅). So, if you wouldn’t leave a toddler alone all day wandering the house, don’t leave a dog unsupervised all day

A study conducted at Kyoto University found that dogs are capable of what scientists call third-party social evaluation—meaning they can observe how a stranger interacts with their owner and use that information to make character judgments.

The Experiment:

• Dogs watched their owner struggle to open a container while asking for help.
• A stranger either helped, refused, or stayed neutral.
• Later, all strangers offered the dog a treat.

Key Result:
Dogs were significantly more likely to reject treats from the person who refused to help their owner—even though the person had done nothing directly to the dog.

• Dogs assess social interactions and make moral judgments based on observation.
• They are not just loyal — they are socially intelligent, with the ability to detect fairness, cooperation, and intent.
• When someone mistreats their human, dogs remember — and may respond with distrust or avoidance.

If you’re taking your dog out to lakes or on the water, make sure you have a good quality life jacket! Make sure you test how your life jacket functions in the water, as dog bodies vary and some life jackets may not work for your dogs body style.
Even if your dog is a great swimmer, life jackets are important. The cold water (we’re in Wyoming, all the water is cold lol) can shock their bodies initially, dogs can easily overexert themselves and be more prone to drowning simply because they are tired.

Good quality life jackets are a bit more expensive, but 100% worth it. The brands we have for our dogs are Outward Hound, Ruffwear, and Nonstop dogwear.

Our Story

I have been a dog lover my entire life. Puppy in my Pocket was one of my all time favorite toys, and I only wanted Barbies if they came with a dog (the Barbie was set off to the side once the package was opened!) My training journey began with a Yorkshire Terrier named Bo. I joined 4-H with Bo and the rest is history! When I was 11 I got MY first dog, a heeler/border collie/lab mix I named Onyx. She was a challenging dog, but I learned so much from her. She went everywhere with me and got me hooked on agility. Fast forward to my college days. I knew I wanted to work with animals, and had been working at our local vet clinic (Carbon County Veterinary Hospital) since I was 16, so I decided my major would be Pre-Vet and I would be a vet one day. Our advisors encouraged us to have a “Plan B” since vet school is hard to get into. I found National K-9 School for Dog Trainers in Columbus, Ohio and knew that was what I was meant to do. I half heartedly applied to vet school that spring, but I was more anxious to get my (hopefully) acceptance letter from NK9. I got in and Riot and I were off to Ohio in August! We graduated that October and One of a Kind Canine was born. I started training dogs in my uncles garage during the day, and my business grew from there. I couldn’t wait to open my own facility and work with dogs everyday! 5 years later I was able to do just that! My journey has not been without ups and downs, but thanks to my family, friends, and clients I am able to have my dream job!

One of a Kind Canine's goal is to help every dog owner reach their goals with their dog. We understand that each dog is one of a kind and each family has different goals. Every training program is tailored to your needs and your dog's unique personality. Obedience - On-leash or off-leash obedience for dogs 4 months and older. Your dog will learn a wide variety of obedience commands chosen to make your life easier! Residency training lasts 5, 10, or 15 days, depending on what you want your dog to learn and each program comes with included follow up lessons! Follow up lessons last 30-45 minutes and will end with some "homework" for you and your dog. Specialty Training - a dog's ability to learn new tasks is limited only by our commitment to their training. Specialty training is designed for dogs that have completed basic and advanced obedience. It includes agility, scent detection, fun tricks and much more!! Please contact me for more information on specialty training. E-Collar Training - e-collars offer more freedom and control for adventurous dogs and peace of mind for their owner! They can be used in everyday life or once in a while! Please contact me for more information about E-Collar training!! If you are interested in any form of training please call me to set up your FREE evaluation!!
