💙 Important Pet Health Update from Hones Veterinary 💙

Heartworm cases are increasing across the U.S. and are showing up more often in places that were once considered low-risk — meaning Wyoming pets are not immune. Preventing heartworm is far easier and safer than treating infection, so we’re updating our protocol to keep your pets protected.

New clinic policy:
• Before we start your dog on heartworm preventive, a heartworm test is required.
•if your dog is less than 6 months old, it does not need a heartworm test
• After that, a heartworm test is required once a year to continue the medication through our clinic.
• The heartworm test is $25.

Why the testing? If a dog already has heartworm infection, starting some preventives can cause serious problems. Annual testing ensures we’re protecting your dog safely and effectively.

If your dog hasn’t been tested in the past year (or has never been tested), call us to schedule the $25 test and get them on the right prevention plan. We’re here to answer questions and help keep your pets happy and healthy. 🐶💚

🚨 Parvo Alert: Increased Cases in Our Area 🚨
We’re seeing a noticeable rise in canine parvovirus (Parvo) cases lately, and we want to help keep your pets safe. Parvo is highly contagious and can be deadly—especially for puppies and unvaccinated dogs.

What You SHOULD Do:
✔️ Keep your dog up to date on vaccines (especially the DHPP series)
✔️ Avoid dog parks, pet stores, or other public areas if your pup is not fully vaccinated
✔️ Wash your hands and disinfect shoes and clothing if you’ve been around unfamiliar dogs
✔️ Call us immediately if your dog shows signs like vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or loss of appetite

What You SHOULD NOT Do:
🚫 Do not allow unvaccinated dogs around other dogs or in public spaces
🚫 Do not assume your puppy is protected after just one shot — the full vaccine series is key
🚫 Do not delay seeking veterinary care if your dog is sick

💉 Prevention saves lives. If you’re unsure about your dog’s vaccination status, give us a call today to schedule a check-up or booster. Let’s work together to stop the spread of Parvo in our community.

Tomorrow is National Pet Fire Safety Day!

Tomorrow is National Pet Fire Safety Day, so we thought it was the perfect time to give everyone some tips and tricks on how to keep our furry friends safe around fires!

🔥 Never leave your pets alone around an open flame. This might seem like a given, but that includes candles for our rowdier pets.
🔥 Keep leashes and collars near the door.
🔥 Keep flammables and electrical wires out of paws reach.
🔥 Make sure fire alarms are working properly and have a plan set in place in case of emergencies.
🔥 Make sure all pets are microchipped and/or wearing ID's on their collars in case of separation.
🔥 Prevent pets from touching stovetop controls and keep an eye on them in the kitchen.

Stay Safe!
