If you insist on having your dog play with other dogs, it's best to find friends with stable dogs and set the pups up on small play dates. This avoids the overwhelm of dog parks, and means that you can be sure that any issues can be responsibly handled.

You really can't go too slow. But you *can* go too fast and actually set yourself back. The best way to keep steady progress is a process called "splitting" where behavior is broken into very tiny fragments so that each piece can be mastered without getting confused with others.

[image description: a small yellow dog stands at the bottom of a very tall purple ladder. It's face shows frustration at being unable to climb. Another yellow dog is happily climbing halfway up another purple ladder, this one much more suitably sized. The text reads "Want success? Take smaller steps! Keep success within reach for you and your dog by splitting goals into small, reachable steps."]

But if you don't, don't accident show them how to be louder!

[image description: a cartoon orange tabby cat sits with it's mouth open in a yowl. Below, a blonde woman has her mouth open in the same expression. The text reads" Don't yell at your cat for talking too much - model good behavior! Can very seldom meow to each other. It's a communication they developed especially for human interaction. So when they meow, and you answer back, they think they're doing the right thing and keep making noise!"]

It's possible you didn't do all you *should* have done to improve things, but genetics plays into how dogs behave a lot, as do life experiences that are often out of our control.

It's less important how you got here, than how you're going to get out of it. And that's where we come in. With judgement free, effective care that helps the whole family.

Yup.

It's not just about avoiding the disaster to begin with - that's just not always possible. It's important to have tools that can help when disaster strikes.

Stashing treats where they're easy to reach quickly, having a tether tucked under your couch, extra baby gates.... they can all make life easier and safer.

After all, if we could just avoid all car accidents, we wouldn't need seatbelts, right?

Wearing a seatbelt isn't cheating - it's smart.
