In addition to our new hybrid courses, we are undergoing some additional exciting changes here. As some of our clients know, earlier this year we have begun updating our branding with a new name change and logo. Banderas Dog Training is now known as Training with Dan Cooper. We will still be operating in partnership with .

Through the course of the next week, we will begin transitioning our social media pages to reflect our new name and logos.

Thank you to all of our current, past and future clients and supporters for continuing to allow us to help develop better relationships between man and man’s best friend!

It is always important to celebrate any victory big or small as part of your training journey with your dog. While out on an outing with our trainers, Harvard was learning how to engage with his handler while ignoring the distracting surroundings (in this case, another one of our trainers working with a different training dog). Way to go Harvard!

One of the most important things to remember when it comes to dog training is that the training does not stop when the trainer is no longer present. Therefore, our programs are designed to keep the owner involved in the process so that the skills and behaviors learned at our facility are also reinforced when at home. Training is a process that will take course throughout your dog’s lifetime. Our job is to give the owners of the dogs that we train the tools and knowledge that they need to be able to enjoy their dogs a bit more and incorporate them into their daily lives.

It is important to us to get to know any of the owners and dogs prior to coming into any of our programs. We try to tailor you and your dog’s learning experience to what your individual needs are. We have found that typically when an owner is involved with their dog’s training, they are also going to have the better results and are more likely to reach their training goals. In addition to help maintain training, any dog who is enrolled in any of our training programs, are welcome to join us for free unlimited Saturday pack walks during your dog’s lifetime.

Have normal obedience classes just not worked out for you? Ready for something new? Contact us today to learn how to enroll!

We know COVID regulations has made things a bit tough when trying to find certain services. Like many industries, the pet industry itself has also had to find ways to evolve in order to continue providing quality and much-needed services to pet owners. One of the programs that we currently have in the works is our new hybrid programs! These programs are designed to teach our clients how to build the proper training foundations for their dogs while at home while also allowing us to "finish" the more intricate details of your dog's training at our facility. Currently the hybrid courses that we will be offering are: Adult Dog Training, Board and Train, Board and Train: Behavior Modification, and Puppy Training Basics. Each of these programs include a variety of services in their programs that vary from one another. These courses are designed to be taught to any breed and any training skill level.

Contact us today if you are interested in learning more or enrolling into one of our hybrid programs!

Did you know that walks are a huge part of our program? When your dog is with us, they will get at least three walks a day. These walks are more designed as decompression and potty relief walks. In addition, we do pack walks with our dogs who are in our care for training. Pack walks are a great way for us to work with our training dogs on various skills such as engagement, motivation, and simply just learning to ignore their surroundings.

As an added bonus anyone who has ever been part of our training programs, are eligible to join us for our weekly pack walks hosted by our trainers as a way to maintain their dog's training. Any dog who has been enrolled into one of our programs are able to attend these pack walks for a free unlimited lifetime after completion.

He may be small, and his name may be Smalls but don't let this fool you! Smalls is quite the ladies man and has a big personality. He enjoys flirting with all of the hardworking vet techs at our facility and is doing amazing on his loose leash walking skills. He is still fresh into the program but stay tuned to watch this little man turn into one amazing star!

Amira has been part of our Reactive Dog Program for a few weeks now. She is currently learning how to ignore distractions like joggers while on walks and stay engaged with her handler. She has made great progress and has even done well going on pack walks with some of the other dogs in our program!

We love our dogs and love being with our dogs! Sometimes though we are busy and we need to give them a job to do while we are busy.

If there was ever a command to teach that would be beneficial to household management, it would be the “place” command. We believe in the usefulness of this command so much that we teach it to our dogs that are enrolled in the Reactive Dog Program.

This simple command is probably one of the more versatile commands you can teach your dog and has so many practical uses in your day-to-day life. By teaching your dog “place”, you are telling your dog to go and place all fours into some sort of defined boundary and stay there until released. In the home, this boundary could be a dog bed, cot, or even a mat. Outdoors, you may use a tree stump or even a utility box. This command forces the dog to be able to cope in different situations and control their own impulses. For dogs that may struggle with excitement and/or anxiety, the place command can also be used to help get them to settle down until they are calm again.

Instances where a place command comes in handy:

-Cooking and/or eating dinner
-Cleaning the house
-Greeting guests
-Getting on a scale at the vet’s
-Get out of the way when on trails or sidewalks
-Keeping things quiet while doing remote work
-Teaches anxious dogs to self-soothe
-Getting those IG-worthy shots
-So much more….

Are you ready to learn how to teach your dog “place” as well as other useful behaviors to your dog to be the perfect family member? Contact us today and learn more about our programs!

When any dog comes into our facility for training, we always ask the owners bring their dog’s breakfast and lunch with them in addition to some high value treats to their lesson. Your dog doesn't go hungry by doing this as we feed your dog's meals to them by hand and teach them to work for their food.
Why do we do this? We do this to manipulate our dog’s food drive to help encourage them to work. When your dog is with us, we want to get as much possible working drive out of the dog as possible.
You can even do this at home! Ditch your dog’s bowl and use mealtime as an opportunity to train or play fun games that help build your dog’s working motivation.
What are some training games that you like to play with your dog that help build their food drive? Let us know below!
