Reminder to my beginner novice teams...we have two more Friday AM classes at 9am in August to work on attention, loose leash walking, sit on command, place, sit-stay, recalls and more! Everyone this past Friday had a challenge and will report back next week at class.

Back to school for the kids means new routines for the entire household. If you got that "summer puppy", they aren't such a puppy anymore. What better time to start the dog in school than September? Our next beginner obedience class starts in September and is perfect for dogs over 4 months old.

Our beginner novice class is a 6 week class. 🚨 Did you know? According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP), 59% of dogs in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Honestly, I think it’s even higher—many vets don’t want to hurt feelings, so they say “your dog looks good” when it’s really 5+ pounds overweight.

We don’t move enough anymore… and neither do our dogs.
So here’s your challenge: This weekend, take your dog for a solid 2–3 mile hike. Find an environment that is suitable to your dog's temperament and training where they can relax and breathe.

And while we’re on the topic—off leash dogs live their best lives. I saw something the other day that hit me hard:

If a dog lives 10 years, that’s just 10 summers.

Only 10.
My dogs spend theirs ripping through fields and exploring the woods, free and joyful, because we’ve put in the work for reliable off leash obedience.

💡 Make the most of the summers you have together. Move more. Train more. Give your dog the freedom to live fully.

"I’d do ANYTHING for my dog."
I’ve heard it countless times. Maybe you’ve even said it yourself. And yet... there’s a critical difference between that and:
"I will do what needs to be done in the best interest of my dog."

The first often comes from a place of emotion. The second? It comes from purpose, intention, and sometimes tough choices.

Because here’s the hard truth:
The same people who say they’d do anything will sedate their dog instead of training them.
They’ll rush to the vet after yet another dog fight, but won’t use a kennel because “he doesn’t like it.”
They’ll justify reactive, anxious, or even dangerous behavior out of guilt or love—without realizing that love alone doesn’t solve problems.
They dog is suffering at the end of its life, but the owner cannot bear to put the dog down humanely so they keep him alive for their own best interest.

Doing something emotionally feels good in the moment.
Doing something purposefully requires thought, consistency, and often, personal sacrifice.

So ask yourself:
Are you doing what feels right?
Or are you doing what is right—for your dog?

Here we go again. The dog attack frequency is increasing. It seems everyday I hear of something. The article states there was a large group of dogs removed from this area. While I was reading up on this another article appeared where a woman had been killed by a dog that had attacked another person months earlier.
What the actual f$&@? The animal ordinances are a joke. We talk about this weekly at classes. If you are charged by a dog the apologetic owner doesn’t mean s**t. Call 911. Raise hell. The next person might not be so lucky.

Mn dog owners think you are safe from BSL? You aren’t. And those of you with mediocre trained dogs are not helping. If you own a power breed and it’s a nuisance or threat (and containing it in the fence or house while it loses its s**t does not count), get your ass in gear and train the dog or admit you made an egotiscal decision that you are not equipped to deal with and make alternative plans for the dog before someone or something gets hurt.

We are old school and doing off leash sit-stay drills outside and off leash. The dogs did well today even with Hwy 10 noise & the train very nearby, Good job!

What a great class tonight! Kevin and Otis get best trick of the night! They are the real weiners….I mean winners.

We had so much fun tonight! We worked on shake, spin, twirl, back up, bow, bang, rollover, crawl, beg and some more! What a great group of dogs and owners.
