There will be a GI Film Festival in San Diego at the Balboa Park Photographic Museum the Weekend of May 21-22. Scott Campbell, a colleague of mine, created and submitted a documentary, "Down on the Ranch" featuring Vets from the Heart of Horsemanship. The short documentary was nominated for a film award. I will be able to share the video after May 21 following the premier showing. We are glad the healing power of horses is making its way to the front and center of treating mental health and trauma. Thank you all for supporting us. I don't post often- though several vets continue to meet weekly for the past several years- even through covid- because the power of working with horses and in community with one another is so helpful.

I appreciate those of you who are liking this page. We are still doing Veterans with Horses and we meet once a week. I decided not to post photos of the Veterans working with the horses, even though the veterans don't mind. Several have been coming to the ranch for about 5 years and the relationship is deeper than just coming for the 8 week program. It feels so personal that I don't want to invade any privacy.

It has also been hard to lose three therapy horses over the past year. It feels different after they leave tho the memories are full of gratitude and love.

We are also working on a short documentary telling the journey if several of the vets. It will be done sometime next year.
And, I am finally doing the editing for my book, Cowgirl Buddha that should also be done next year. So things are going on.

I would be happy to answer any questions or share stories if you are interested. I just wanted you to know why there have been so few posts. With an open heart and a wish for healing for all of you! Peace through the holidays and into next year.

This is an old photo of beautiful and loving Storm who helped so many veterans suffering from PTSD> He is responsible for saving many lives. He passed on in October and we truly miss him.

Healing the Wounds of Warriors Through the Energetic Connection with Horses

02/19/2020

I am sorry if I do not post often. I feel that the space between horse and veteran is sacred and I feel a little odd posting photos of deeply wounded folks in the process of healing.
There is a weekly session on Mondays that has been ongoing for several years.
We have hosted the San Marcos Veterans Center for a series of 8 week sessions and will be starting another one in March.
The primary reason we started the Heart of Horsemanship program is to validated the healing power of horses for combat veterans. We know that the connections made with horses through our guidance have led to many veterans finding relief from symptoms of PTSD. We have worked with other populations as well.
We host programs on a request only basis. We don't market or engage in serious fundraising- though we have appreciated financial support that has been provided. This program is a gift to those who have generously placed their lives in harms way for the protection of our freedoms.
I appreciate the support many of you have shown in purchasing Ride It Out from Amazon. The book seems to be greatly appreciated by many who wanted more understanding of how horses help people heal.
Wishing you a wonderful sense of joy and engagement in your life and hoping you find your way to connecting with horses.

today's program showed some amazing character among these strong women. We had , sirens, fire trucks, helicopters, raging winds, a fire just a few miles away- lots of distractions from connecting with the horses...but they showed strength and grace- doing incredible round pen work and then mounting their horses for the first time in the program- with just a ba****ck pad. They didn't need sidewalkers for long. They helped the horses too. We had a flood this morning from a broken water line and the horses were anxious from the heavy winds all night. Calm, cool, focused, present, openhearted. Yes, we always keep safety front and center of our work together.

Thanks to all the men and women who have participated in our Heart of Horsemanship Programs.
We continue on....Horses do help heal symptoms of PTSD...the data proves it!!!! Read about it in my recently launched book.

If you are a veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, your symptoms—anxiety, fear, flashbacks, and more—may feel insurmountable, despite traditional treatments and medications. However, researcher, professor, and horsewoman, Dr. Ellen Kaye Gehrke has created an e...

Haven't posted in awhile...A core group of veterans meets every Monday morning at Rolling Horse Ranch to bond and deepen the relationship with their horses. There is a noticeable difference in how everyone feels after continuing the past 1 1/2 years together. Horses really do help heal.
