King is still available for adoption at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center

King is already neutered and READY TO GO HOME TODAY!! Come meet him today at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center.

Meet King, the goofy, high-energy 2-year-old pup who will have you laughing and maybe even questioning who's really in charge-spoiler alert: it's not him! King's hobbies include playing fetch, roughhousing with his dog buddies, and giving out endless kisses. He's still got some puppy energy in him, so prepare for a ton of fun!

In his most recent playgroup, King was friendly and fun, but let's just say his smaller female playmate clearly ran the show. King was more about being a submissive goofball, hiding under a chair when she got a little too enthusiastic with the play (we get it, sometimes you just need a break!). King's definitely used to sharing the spotlight-he's lived with male dogs before, both in foster care and with a previous adopter, so he's no stranger to dog dynamics.

Because of his rough play style and puppy tendencies, King's probably not the best fit for small kids or cats, but if your dog enjoys a good, energetic play session, King's your guy! He's crate-trained and has a sensitive stomach (Pedigree food is his jam), so he just needs a little extra care with meals and potty breaks.

And don't forget-the King may be goofy, but he's also the King of snuggling. Ready for a fun, loving, and cuddly companion? King's got the crown (and the kisses) to make you feel like royalty!

King is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and already neutered. If you have dogs, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times.

🚨Cute Tripod Puppy Alert!

Meet Yardstick: the sweet puppy named because he only has 3 feet.

🐾 6 months old

🐾Great with other dogs and children

🐾Crate and potty trained

🐾Well behaved, relaxed, loving, and affectionate

What more could you want in a perfect, little boy! His big feet suggest he has growing to do, but he is gentle and calm. Don't get us wrong, he likes to play and roughhouse, but he also loves to nap and cuddle. His new family will need to understand he is still learning to navigate on 3 legs, but it does not slow him down. If interested, please email his foster mom at [email protected]

Meet Rabbit - a girl who is looking for the peace and serenity that comes from a calm and stable environment. When she first arrived at the shelter she was super shy and unsure about what was going on - even showing distrust in the humans that were helping her. Even with her first doggie playgroup, she tended to stay on the outskirts with another shy dog, not really engaging in play.

With time and patience, she has learned the routine and has come to love snuggling up with our volunteers. Volunteers report that she appreciates a good belly scratch, long walks, flopping around in the grass. She would benefit from a calm, patient home with humans who understand a dog's need to decompress after living the shelter life. Trust and safety is what will help her continue to thrive and be her goofy, lovable self.

If you're interested in learning more about her, visit the Wake County Animal Center open every day from 12-6pm, or reach out to the volunteer matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Rabbit - 261547".

Luke is still available for adoption through the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center.

Meet Luke!
We dare you to spend 5 minutes with this boy and not crack a smile. He is silly, fun, playful, and smart! He loves toys and totes them around the house proudly. He also loves fetch with his favorite ball or bone. When he's not playing, he wants to be with you and soaking up all the attention. He loves cuddling and being pet. He has a gorgeous coat, expressive eyes, and an adorable curly tail.

He knows basic commands, and is perfectly house trained. He goes willingly in his crate, and sleeps without a peep. He will do anything for a treat!! He gets along well with his foster dog sister, as well.

This cute, young guy is neutered and ready to go home! He is in foster, not at the shelter, but you can arrange a meet up with his foster mom using the email in his bio.

Marcy is still available for adoption at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center.

Marcy is still available for adoption at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center.

Meet Marcy, the dog who likes to play it cool, but also has a secret inner alpha ready to take charge! In her first playgroup session, she was respectful and lowkey with her male play partner, like the dog equivalent of someone casually sipping a drink at the edge of the party, observing all the action. She was interested in playing but definitely not into the rowdy antics. Fast forward to her most recent session with a male playmate, and Marcy was feeling a little more bristly and cranky-almost like she was on a secret mission to hunt her playmate (seriously, she had that "I'm watching you" vibe).

While she can play with some males just fine, she'd probably be too alpha to pair with another female. If you've got a confident, friendly male dog who likes a bit of gentle play, Marcy could be the perfect fit. She's got that "I do what I want" energy, but once she decides you're in her circle, she'll be a loyal, loving companion. Just be ready for a dog who knows exactly who's boss-spoiler: it's her.

If you're interested in learning more about her, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Marcy 258943" or visit 820 Beacon Lake Dr in Raleigh, NC any day from Noon until 6pm. WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center

Meet Loki! Her is available for adoption at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center This happy-go-lucky ball of fluff is full of charm, neutered, and ready to go home today! While he may get a little excited in his kennel, Loki transforms into a calm, well-mannered gentleman on leash. In fact, volunteers report that he is an excellent choice for beginner volunteers to handle due to his lack of leash reactivity and easygoing nature. However, his previous owners noted that he would thrive best in a home without cats or livestock present.

If you're interested in learning more about Loki, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Loki 256787".

Meet Mr. Mom, a lively, loving dog who’s been waiting nearly a year for his forever home. He earned his name after arriving at the shelter with three puppies he protectively cared for, showing off his sweet, nurturing side. These days, he’s known for his goofy, high-energy play—he loves bouncing around with dog friends, going for long walks, and riding in the car like a pro. Volunteers say he’s a joy on outings, curious about everything and eager for adventure, but just as happy to soak up attention and treats. Mr. Mom is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and ready to trade shelter life for a home where he can finally shine as the fun, loyal companion he’s meant to be. Hi there! My name is Camille. Are you looking for an active kitten that is sweet, playful, and sassy? Then I am the girl for you! I love to play with my foster siblings and take on new adventures. I love to play with toys, look out the window, and of course play with my foster brothers. My foster mom tells me I am nosey and a bold little kitten, mainly because I like to supervise everything and everyone in the house. I would love to go to a home with other cats. I think I will be bored and lonely if I don't have a friend to play with. I have been raised in a household with other cats and dogs. I am up to date on my vaccines, microchipped, and wonderful about using the litter box. So what do you say? Am I the girl for you?!

Our 2nd Senior Sunday Pet is Clifton Trace (CT): a gentleman with a little mystery and a lot of heart.
At first, CT came off as calm and reserved-polite in doggie playgroup; friendly but low-key. We thought he might not have been feeling his best that day. But then came bath time, and let us tell you, this dog could moonlight at a day spa. He stood perfectly still, no leash holding needed, just soaking up the suds like a seasoned pro. No fuss, no stress-just pure Zen. If bath-taking were an Olympic sport, CT would take gold.
In playgroups he has shown he can play well with female dogs in calmer settings, so we're calling him "dog selective" for now. Smaller dogs than him (CT weighs about 68 #) would be a no.
Mostly, CT just needs a home that lets him unwind, be himself, and enjoy a little peace (and maybe regular spa days). Sweet, soulful, and occasionally spicy-he's a one-of-a-kind companion. He adores belly rubs, cuddles, and quiet moments with his people. He is easy to collar and calm as he walks by barking dogs, making him an excellent walking buddy with wonderful leash manners. He knows how to sit, takes treats ever so gently, is potty trained, and has just the right amount of energy for leisurely strolls and plenty of sniffing and exploring.
He has been shown to be good with kids over 11.
Clifton Trace is already neutered so he can go home with you the day you meet him.
If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Clifton Trace 260359".
https://pets.wake.gov/gallery/260359
Better yet, come visit him at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center when they reopen on Tuesday (they are closed for Labor Day on Monday 9/1/25). They will be open for adoptions every day from 12-16. Located at 820 Beacon Lake Dr in Raleigh NC.

Our Senior Sunday Pet is Pretty Girl. You can see by the pictures why she was named that.

Pretty Girl is not just pretty she brings more to this party. She is potty trained, trusted to have free run in the house, loves her walks, gets along with most dogs (she doesn’t care for the ones who get right in her face, but who does?), and does well with a 2-year-old human. She loves to lay in the sun soaking up the rays, loves to be pet, loves her treats and boy, she really loves butt scratches. Pretty Girl prefers to be a couch potato then a high energy dog but has plenty of good energy. She lives with 3 large dogs and is dog savvy enough to play well and let them know when they go a little too far. We don’t know how she is with cats.
Although we believe she is pretty enough, she just had a dental to improve her beautiful smile.

Pretty Girl is living in a foster home but really wants a home to call her own. If your home and heart are right for an 11-year-old dog, please follow this link to see her bio. If you click on the Additional Info link you can send a message to the shelter to meet her. https://pets.wake.gov/gallery/257663

If maybe it isn’t the right time to add a senior dog to your home please consider all of Pretty Girl’s friends. You can see them at https://pets.wake.gov and visit them at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center. Located at 820 Beacon Lake Dr in Raleigh NC, they are open for adoptions every day from 12-6 (closed on 9/1 Labor Day).

Inky is spayed and READY TO GO HOME!!!

Inky is a confident lady who knows what she wants and isn't shy about taking the lead! She has a bit of a "boss" vibe when playing with other dogs so it is best if she goes to a home with no other dogs.
Inky is just 43 lbs but with her energy she may be too much if you are looking for a couch potato dog. She is easy to collar, walks calmly past barking dogs, knows "sit," and takes treats gently. She's affectionate, loves cuddles, and is quick to come when called, making her a loyal and loving companion. Inky is on the potty-trained list at the shelter.

Be sure to check out her video of her playing with her new toy! https://pets.wake.gov/gallery/259357

If you're interested in learning more about her, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Inky 259357".

Even better come see her at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center. They are open for adoptions from 12-6 every day except holidays (closed on Labor Day 9/1). Located at 820 Beacon Lake Dr in Raleigh NC.

08/30/2025

104 beautiful animals arrived and are still waiting to be reclaimed or find a new home, at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center this week. Many are strays and we will never know their stories, but many had homes and due to severe life changes their owners could not continue to provide a safe home for them. They all deserve a loving home.
Tomorrow, 8/31/25, is the final day of Clear the Shelter and adoption fees are waived until tomorrow.

Please SHARE this post with friends/colleagues/family because maybe just 1 of them has a place in their homes and hearts for a pet.
If you can ADOPT, please hurry to the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center when they open at noon to offer a safe home to a new pet. The shelter, located at 820 Beacon Lake r in Raleigh NC, is open 12-6 every day for adoptions. They will be closed on Monday 9/1/25 for Labor Day. You can view every animal and find more info about them at https://pets.wake.gov/gallery. Remember: If it says Not Yet Available, they are on stray hold. You can put a Pending Adoption on them in case their owner never reclaims them. You should check the Additional Info tab in their bio on https://pets.wake.gov/gallery first to make sure they will be placed up for Adoption. If it says In Foster, they live in a home and are not at the shelter.

Your SHARES do make a difference. It just takes 1 perfect person to see their perfect new family member to make it the best day ever for one of these cats or dogs.
