Here's a case that illustrates the importance of anesthetized oral exams and dental radiographs. This patient's upper premolar appeared pretty normal on a routine exam. Dental x-rays showed that the distal root (root on the left side) had more than 50% loss of its bony attachment. This indicates periodontal disease, chronic inflammation of the tooth supporting structures (gums and bone). These teeth should be extracted to resolve inflammation, infection, and pain. Dogs and cats don't complain about dental pain, so it's our job to ensure they have healthy and comfortable mouths.

Meet Icee! He's a cuddly and handsome 13 week old boy in foster care with Purr Partners Rescue. He and his littermates were found at a construction site in January. Icee had sustained a serious wound to his hind leg. We are happy to report that his leg has been healing well! He couldn't be a more perfect patient for his regular wound care and bandage changes. Our whole staff is smitten with this tuxedo kitten. He has a bit more healing to go before he's ready for adoption. Icee's going to make such a great companion for a lucky individual or family. 🐾🥰🐾
