Place training won't help your reactive, aggressive, or anxious dog.

But addressing the over-arousal and creating structure / boundaries / accountability will!

In my program, we use a crate for the first 3 weeks, daytime and night, and then "Graduate" to Place training during the daytime, when your dog is ready

The reason: you are an average dog owner. you're not a pro dog trainer and you're not going to have the skill level or time needed for your dog to pattern true calm and relaxation on Place.

To properly enable you, we must pattern it in a crate and on a leash - then we simply transfer that skill to a place cot.

All of my clients are provided instructions for Place training their dogs but many are not quite ready for that level of responsibility when training ends.

And to all my clients I say, "dont rush it"!

Place training isn't any more beneficial for your dog than being in their crate, but Place training prematurely can cause regression - setting their behavior back quite a bit.

Remember everytime they react or break place to react, it works against you and erodes progress because dogs are opportunitists that learn from pattern recognition.

So rather than rush to Place training, all my clients are encouraged to wait until they'll have zero behavior, attitude, and mindset issues before "graduating" to Place training (which only takes like 15 minutes total because it's been layered in effectively)

If you ever encounter a "dog trainer" who says that the goal of training is to NOT need tools anymore

That's not a good trainer who will prioritize your best interests.

Find a trainer with less ego who says the goal is "to give owner's a better quality of life and enjoy a calmer, well-behaved dog, with or without tools"

Both of my dogs are working Service Dogs, and both are prong collar conditioned and wear e-collars 99% of the time.

They are fully trained and I do not micro manage their behavior.

I have no interest in "getting them off tools", at all, ever. Zero.

I am perfectly happy to have a fully trained dog that wears an e-collar for the rest of their life.

And I'm happy to lead by example for my clients.

Why?

Because having my dog continue wearing this tool gives me peace of mind, it gives me control if I need to take control, and it gives them ultimate freedom to "be a dog" in any environment, around any trigger or distraction.

My dogs are off-leash 99% of the time except when we are in public access or walking down the street.

Isn't that the WHOLE POINT???

I fear too many trainers are projecting their biases and preferences onto owners, instead of truly focusing on what matters - helping the average dog owner feel confident and in control, while diminishing unwanted behavior.

If all practitioners in the industry could all agree that's the only point of dog training, dog owners and dogs globally would be better off.... but we can't agree - because too many trainers say that your dog isn't fully trained if you need tools.

All of the sudden, the bar got raised now you're stuck "training" forever.

F**k if your dog wears training tools the rest of their life.
F**k if you need to walk your dog on a prong collar for the rest of their life.
F**k if you ever "ween them off"

Absolutely the only people who care are the ones who do not have your best interest or your dog's best interests at heart.

If your and your dog's quality life is objectively better, because your dog wears an e-collar or a prong collar everyday????

WEAR THE TRAINING COLLAR - EVERYDAY

How about we disregard the petty opinions of dog industry influencers who masquerade as "trainers" with their damn podcast soapboxes and focus on listening to dog trainers who practice what they preach and have the results to prove it.

You want a dog like mine?

Your dog will wear an e-collar 99% of the time.

2 years of not being able to walk past dogs 💔

This owner had to cut into people's front yards, hide behind bushes, reroute down side streets, and literally would hold his dogs mouth shut to keep him from barking and lunging at dogs in our neighborhood.

Before we can focus on socialization and desensitization, or Trigger Response Training™️ and counter conditioning with engagement... we need to give the dog the magic key

*Clarity*

Clarity is when a dog understands what is Good vs Bad

When your dog understands what behavior creates pressure, versus releases pressure

What choices will have consequences versus will be comfortable

Until you've started having these, what i call, "difficult conversations" with your reactive/aggressive dog, you haven't begun to get to the root of the issue and you won't make significant progress

And if you've already worked with 1-5 dog trainers unsuccessfully in the past - this is likely missing in your training foundation because most trainers are more concerned with making training "fun" and "positive", versus productive.

You've probably tried obedience, distracting and redirecting with treats, engagement games, yes-work, and even leash work.

You've basically been taught everything except the single most effective tool in dog training

*Punishment*

Your dog has to know your boundaries and they have to believe you will hold them accountable

It's up to you to give your dog the chance to make decisions, and then you provide the feedback... good v bad.

✅️ Good = no punishment or pressure, and perhaps even some verbal praise, a pet, or even a little massage

❌️ Bad = punishment

Then the REAL work begins for the owner - get enough reps in around your dog's triggers and their behavior issues will be replaced by confidence and calm as the dog realizes they'd prefer comfort over consequence.

This is what's possible in 1 hour when you train using a program based in Neuroscience and Dog Psychology 🐕

Just imagine what we can accomplish over 4 weeks together!

It only takes 1 time for your dog to eat something they shouldnt have when they are scavenging, that could kill them.

Chicken bones
Rat poison
Chocolate
Peanut butter with xylitol
Bread dough
Corn cobs
Avocado pits
Socks

I don't say this to scare you, I say this because remaining ignorant to the truth could cost you an emergency vet visit ($$$) and possibly, your dog's life.

If your dog has PICA or is just extremely food motivated, it's up to you to set boundaries for what they are allowed to have and not allowed to have

Your dog should not be eating things that you did not explicitly give them

You should be able to drop things on the floor and leave food unattended without it turning to into a frenzy

Your dog should not be eating bunny p**p or scavenging for food on the ground

While sometimes it's a sign of nutritional deficiency, it's also a clear signal that your dog has no boundaries or accountability.

They feel entitled to take whatever they want as long as they can reach it.

And this isn't about feelings, it's about drive

Dogs are Savage animals.

They really don't care about our feelings or that we want for them to be happy and healthy.

Dogs without boundaries and accountability, eat things they shouldn't be eating

Dogs with boundaries and accountability, only eat when you present them food

FYI - I still have in-person private training spots open for June and July 2026 in Raleigh, NC. If you're struggling with your dog's behavior, send me an email ([email protected]) so we can discuss training options and next steps

I'll tell you exactly what I do/did - no gatekeeping here👇

✅ I walk them 3-4 miles a day. We walk 60-90 minutes, at least 5 days a week.

✅ They sleep 18-19 hours a day.

✅ I provide clear structure. At home, on the walk, in the car, in the crate, in public - my dogs always have a "job" to focus on.

✅ I don't let my dogs free roam my home. Supervised or unsupervised. They have dedicated spots to hangout in... this is their "job" when we are home.

✅ I don't let my dogs stand up in the car or stick their heads out the windows. They must be in a Downstay.

✅ I set clear boundaries using effective punishment. If a behavior or attitude isn't acceptable, I punish it properly and fairly. I don't worry about "why" a dog is misbehaving, I simply say "no" to it.

✅ I follow-through on boundaries and hold them accountable. Selective listening isn't tolerated.

✅ I don't let strangers pet them. And I don't explain why. I say "no" and then will physically intervene, if needed.

✅ I walk through doorways first. They may not walk ahead of me.

✅ All walks are a "Structured Walk". Only potty (with permission) and walking in Follow-mode, with their nose, eyes, and ears behind my hip. (Shown in video). No walking next to me. No sniffing. Sniffing is for off-leash time only.

✅ I don't feed excited dogs. Calm dogs get fed. Hype dogs wait until they have calmed down.

✅ I don't talk to them and use very little "obedience" to manage behavior. We train for "implied behavior" instead which means do the job I've given you, until told otherwise.

✅ I don't train a "Stay". All commands mean stay, until I've released you or given another command.

✅ On that note, i only train 6 primary commands, 2 markers, and 1 release word - Heel, Sit, Down, Come, Out, Take, Yes, No, and Free.

✅ I do not use food rewards for basic training. We train using communication and energy that dogs understand more naturally - pressure "on" / pressure "off" / and soft neutral hard.

✅ My dogs must wait for an invitation to be on my bed or couch. No free-access to valuable resources. Only free access is on the floor.

✅ My dogs don't have 100 toys or get daily access to chews or self-play.

✅ My dogs go everywhere with me. They are extremely well-socialized and desensitized to the world we live in.

✅ I push them through their anxiety and fear, instead of give into it. Can't overcome what you don't face.

✅ I trained them 1:1. I didn't expect my older dog to train my younger dog. That's the human's job.

✅ I spend 1:1 time with each dog and both dogs have learned to spend time alone.

✅ After their training foundation and our relationship was steady, I provided breed-enrichment.

✅ I focus on feeding a premium/hi protein diet. No Purina, Blue Buffalo, or any other low quality kibble. We feed Fromms and Open Farm. They eat 1x daily.

✅ My dogs are not allowed to play with dogs who I didn't train or I can't control effectively. No dog parks or doggie day cares.

✅ I don't let vet staff take them in back or handle them like "furbabies". Treat my dog like a patient - no talk, no eye contact. Speak directly to me, the human and listen to my handling instructions. Everyone wins.

✅ They are muzzle trained, just in case of an injury. Dogs in pain, bite.

✅ They wear their e-collars 90% of the time. Inside and outside, on leash and especially off-leash. Just like I always wear my seat belt when I'm in a car.

✅ Kids are not allowed to interact with my dogs unless they are old enough to learn how to tell a dog "no".

✅ I don't use my dogs for emotional comfort or support. They are trained Service Dogs that task for medical purposes but my emotions are mine to deal with. If I'm too worked up, I step away and leave my dogs to decompress.

✅ Both/all dogs I work with are trained using the exact same blueprint and program, to ensure training efficacy and standards.

I'm sure there's more... but if you read this far, you probably need support.

Right now, I'm booking private clients at my Raleigh location for June.

Some new faces here, so let me reintroduce myself!

Hi! I'm Janna. I help dog owners stop difficult behavior to start loving life with a calmer, and well-behaved dog!

Since 2023, I’ve worked with 100+ dog owners globally to transform their lives with their dog, and now I am focusing my effort on serving the Triangle.

Most of my clients have already worked with 1-5 dog trainers unsuccessfully, ranging from positive reinforcement to balanced trainers, but are still struggling both at home out in the “real world” with their dog.

My clients know that something needs to change and are ready to commit to a new lifestyle and becoming true leaders who their dog loves to follow.

If you are struggling with a difficult dog or a Service Dog In-Training and would like expert guidance on how to overcome these challenges so you can start living your best life with your dog, shoot me an email ➡️ [email protected]

Will never cease to amaze me that people would rather drug their dog to the point that they are essentially unconscious, like a rock, than learn how to be leader and set boundaries with effective punishment.

Dogs don't understand being drugged and sedated.
They do understand clear communication though.

Medication alone has never rehabbed a dog.
Clear communication, structure, and boundaries on it's own has rehabbed millions of dogs.

The choice just seems obvious.
