The last dog ever to be trained at our kennel left our facility two weeks ago. It was fitting that it was a 7 month old pitbull named Ruby. We began this journey nearly two decades ago for three primary objectives. First was to train severe behavioral cases to slow the influx of dogs being surrendered to shelters and rescues. Secondly promote good examples of the high risk breeds and provide the owners of these dogs the critical tools, methods, and techniques in order to be successful with them. Lastly was to give back to our men and women in uniform, by providing low cost training and long term boarding solutions while they were out defending our great nation.

Upon further reflection, I believe our family accomplished these objectives and retire from this business with no regrets. At the end of the day we stayed true to our beliefs and philosophy on dog ownership and training and saved a ton of dogs in the process. We will certainly miss the clients and their pups, but Madaline and I felt it was time to focus on our pack of 11 dogs, who often took a back seat to client dogs. These last two weeks have been very surreal experience not having to go over to the kennel after doing so every day for two decades! Another chapter closed in the Kranenburg family's life and a new one opened. We are Outer Banks bound to our 17 acre homestead with my wife Madaline and band of pirate dogs! Exciting times!

From the bottom of our hearts we thank our loyal clients, the shelters, rescues, and the other dog professionals we have had the pleasure of working with over the years. It takes a village to train/rehabilitate, and care for dogs. We are honored to have been a part of this effort and community. Keep up the good fight!

Christmas Corgis! I don't think there is anything that beats the smile of a Corgi! Pup Pup (pictured left), is the sister of our other Corgi, Johnny Ringo (pictured right). Pup Pup just lost a litter of pups and has had difficulty in the past delivering and whelping litters, so her breeder made the decision to retire her. She has an incredibly sweet disposition and personality and fits right in with our pack of pups. What's one more pup when we already have 9? Welcome to the Kranenburg Pack sweetheart!

Our personal pack enjoying the freedom and relaxation of our Outer Banks farm. Owning a large pack of dogs requires careful selection, countless hours of training, and a good understanding of pack dynamics and pack management. A large pack of animals will quickly validate a dog owner's leadership ability, or lack thereof. Animals expect and demand leadership by example. They will instantly let you know if you aren't holding up your end of the bargain! As with any anything, there are challenges that can arise with large packs of pups. Exercise, reinforcing calm and assertive behavior, and fixing/capping common pack issues such as dominant, territorial, and possessive behaviors will all go a long way to balancing and successfully managing a large pack of dogs. A proactive rather than a reactive mindset is key. We practice what we preach.

A little tip for fixing plastic kennel doors when the latches fail. Instead of paying $35 to $45 for a new door that will fail in a few months anyway, go to Lowes or Homedepot and buy two slide action bolts. Get a slotted 1 3/8 inch flat bar to use as a backing plate for the dead bolts. Use a 5/16 inch drill bit to drill two holes in the kennel door frame for the dead bolt to pass through. Carabiners can be placed in the dead bolts in order to prevent them from rattling open. This will cost under $15 total and will make the kennel door a lot more rigid, in addition to preventing your pups from pushing or pulling the door open. This door upgrade will outlast the kennel itself. Happy training!

We love getting pictures and video from our clients on their pups progress. Anyone who owns Belgian Malinois or German Shepherds can appreciate how much training and effort goes into making these dogs reliable around livestock. It takes a lot of time, patience, and the understanding that the pup will make mistakes along the way. That is where training tools, techniques, and procedures come in. They help keep training safe, productive, and going in the right direction. Great job Maverick! We are extremely proud of you!

Our methods aren't magic or ground breaking, but we are confident that our clients and potential clients will see progress even before training with us. We pride ourselves in keeping training simple, cost effective, and easy to follow. We would much rather assist owners with simple problems such as these prior to training, so we can focus on more important things such as behavior, socialization, and handler training. Great job Tiger and Lilly! We look forward to working with you and seeing you develop into the pup's your owners know you can be!

This is IBK Joesephine one of the new members of the Kranenburg Pack! She was born on 5 January 2023. She is our second Boerboel/South African Mastiff. They are one of the most loyal and protective breeds we have ever owned and some of the best livestock guardian dogs we have ever had the pleasure of training. Usually they have a red coat with a black mask. Joesephine is one of the the rare piebalds. This litter had 4 piebald Boerboels! The Kranenburg family has always had a soft spot for the large powerful breeds. We look forward to welcoming Joesephine into our pack! Thank you Integrity Boerboel Kennels and Roman Price for producing such magnificent pups. The most rewarding things about the dog business are the people and dogs that we meet and the life long friendship that are formed. We will see you in 8 weeks Joesephine!

Merry Christmas from the Kranenburg Kennel! This has been an extremely busy year for our small family run kennel. Besides our trainees, we have a ton of pups at our facility long-term, while their owners were deployed in defense our our great nation. Many are still here. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. This is our 15th Christmas for our kennel! We are forever grateful for our clients and hope everyone in our extended pack has a safe holiday and a Happy New Year! We will see you in 2023!

I don't think we have trained a pup lately that enjoys getting groomed as much as this young German Shepherd Nyx! Putting the work in when they are young pays off when they are older.

We began this journey close to 15 years ago, because we became disheartened with the number of dogs that were being surrendered, or even worse, losing their lives for behavioral issues that were easily solved with the correct tools, technique, and methods. The most rewarding part of this work is assisting dog owners with understanding and building a better bond with their dogs. We are forever grateful for the support and patronage of families such as these. Great work Finnley! You and your family are forever a part of our extended pack and we look forward to seeing your progress!
