Rosie and Sam treed a young black bear in my woods this evening. I was on a walk in the woods with some family who is visiting and the dogs started barking with the bark they use when they’ve got something up in a tree - more exited than if it were just a squirrel. So we went over to see what it was and it was a bear! They had it up a tree. Then it got down a couple of times and they chased it up a different tree. I was able to call them off and the bear ran off up the hill. My uncle caught a blurry picture of the bear. No lack of courage in these dogs!

It was a lovely morning for a trail ride with Sam and Rosie. They are such good trail pups!

Rosie turns 3 today! Happy Birthday, Rosie! Here’s a picture from this morning’s trail ride in the woods on my farm. Rosie and Samwise were very interested in whatever was up that tree 🙂.

Sam is a 70 lbs Tri-factored Sable and clear of all genetic diseases tested by Embark. CN: n/n. DMS: 002:01|015:01|aabb. PennHip: Right DI 0.32, Left DI 0.38. He is a very confident, friendly boy. He takes his job of monitoring the horse farm he lives on seriously, watches for anything out of order and vermin that need to be taken care of. He loves being out doing things, like going on trail rides or jogs, especially in cooler weather. But he also has a good off switch and can settle down and hang out. He has done some sheep herding, shows aptitude and enjoyment for the job and has passed his HIT test.

Rosie is a Blue Merle and weighs about 50 lbs. She carries 1 copy of the MDR1 gene, but is otherwise clear of genetically tested conditions. Rosie carries unique genetics as her dam, Gretel vom Hallerhof, was imported from Germany to diversify the OTSC gene pool. PennHip: Right DI 0.49, Left DI 0.36; OFA: Fair. Rosie conforms more closely to the breed standard of being reserved. She is cautious and barks when meeting new people, but warms up if they give her some space and time. Rosie is biddable and quick to learn new things. She loves being near me, though she’s not completely a Velcro dog and will go off with Sam to check things out on the farm. She is more of a quiet spirit and is happy to chill and hang out with me, though she also enjoys being out and about on trail rides and jogs and doing chores around the farm.

Possible colors from this pairing include: Sable, Sable Merle, Tri, and Blue Merle.
