Meet the newest addition to the A Dog's Hearth menu. 🍗

One of the things that kept coming up in my nutrition studies at Southern Illinois University was organ meats — specifically how nutrient dense they are, naturally rich in B vitamins, iron, CoQ10, and essential amino acids that support everything from energy metabolism to cellular health.

So I built a recipe around them.

Chicken hearts, chicken liver, and whole chicken thighs. Pearled barley for whole grain energy. Chia seeds for natural omega fatty acids. Eggshell powder for calcium. Kelp for trace minerals.

High protein. Lower carb. All natural. Nothing synthetic.

And just like we talked about in the recent video — this is not a replacement for anything.

Every dog is different. Some thrive on simplicity. Others are ready for something with more depth. This is a new option, sitting alongside everything we already offer, built for the dogs who are ready for it.
Because variety is not just a preference. In nutrition, it is a principle.

Two new recipes have joined the A Dog’s Hearth menu. 🐾

A completely grain free lamb recipe built around whole lamb, lamb liver, red lentils, sweet potato, and kelp. And a new chicken recipe centered on an organ blend of chicken hearts, liver, and thighs, alongside pearled barley, chia seeds, and kelp.

Both recipes reflect what A Dog’s Hearth has been learning through my nutrition studies paired with what I have been hearing from dog owners at our markets this spring. Every dog is different, and the more variety we can offer, the better we can serve each one.

Our original chicken and lamb recipes are still very much part of the menu, and are not going anywhere. These are simply new options for dogs who are ready for them.
Curious which recipe might be the right fit? A personalized nutrition analysis comes complimentary with your first order.

As always, any changes to your dog’s diet or health concerns are worth discussing with your veterinarian as part of their overall care plan.

Real questions. Honest answers. 🐾

After a few markets this spring some questions kept coming up at the A Dog's Hearth booth.

Will my dog actually eat it? How long does it last? Is fresh food affordable if you are not ready to switch completely? What is actually in the bowl?

Because at A Dog's Hearth, we believe the best thing we can do for dog owners across our community is give them real information, not a sales pitch. You decide what is right for your dog.

Drop your own question in the comments. We read every one.

Your dog's gut doesn't lie. 🔑

Think of digestion like a lock and a key.

The key? The environment — specifically the pH balance inside your dog's gut.
The lock? An enzyme called pepsin, responsible for breaking down protein.

When the pH is right, the key fits perfectly. Pepsin works. Protein gets fully broken down and absorbed.

But when the pH is off? The key no longer fits. The lock stays closed — and your dog is eating good protein without actually getting the full benefit from it.

Here's what most people miss: moisture plays a huge role in keeping that pH environment balanced.

Fresh food with proper hydration keeps that environment where it needs to be — so every meal your dog eats actually works the way it's supposed to.

This is why moisture content is built into every recipe we make at Dog's Hearth.

Every conversation we have with you... the questions you ask, the stories you share about your dogs genuinely shapes how we think about what we do.

You help us understand what pet parents actually need, not just what we assume.

That’s the thing about real food for real dogs. It’s not just about ingredients. It’s about knowing the animals it’s made for.

So thank you for talking with us. For being curious. For caring enough to ask.

Every exchange makes us better at what we do — and hopefully makes a real difference for your pup.

We’ll be back. Come find us. 🐾

Education never stops when it comes to helping dogs live healthier lives. 🐾

We’re proud to share that AJ has successfully completed the Canine & Feline Nutrition Certificate Program at Southern Illinois University, approved by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB).

This certification builds on nearly two decades of experience feeding dogs fresh, whole-food nutrition and reinforces our commitment to making every recommendation with both real-world experience and science-backed knowledge.

When you choose A Dog’s Hearth, you’re choosing more than fresh dog food—you’re choosing guidance from someone dedicated to understanding canine nutrition and helping your dog thrive.

🐾 We're back at this Saturday, July 4!

Come find us if you're out celebrating — we would look forwarding to seeing you.

A few things on our minds this holiday weekend though…

🌡️ The heat is real. If your pup is coming along, make sure they have access to fresh water, shade, and plenty of rest. Hot pavement, crowded spaces, and humid air can be tough on dogs faster than we realize. Keep an eye out for excessive panting, drooling, or slower movement, and when in doubt, call it a day early. A happy, comfortable dog is always the goal!

🔗 NYC has great guidance at nyc.gov/beattheheat — worth a quick read this weekend.

🎆 Fireworks and festivities can be a blast for us… and a lot for them. Some dogs revel in the energy. Others find it overwhelming. Know your dog, trust your instincts, and if they need a quiet night at home, that is absolutely the right call.

🛍️ Dog at home tonight? Stop by anyway. We will have something fresh and wholesome for you to bring back. Because we know — even when they are not with you, they are on your mind.

Come say hello, have a conversation, and maybe take a little something back from our hearth to yours. 🐶❤️

What a weekend! 🐾

We had the best time connecting with so many of you at and — answering your questions, talking nutrition, and meeting the pups (and pet parents) behind the bowls.

Huge shoutout to our Queens Night Market neighbor for capturing our founder AJ in true "really bad portrait" fashion.

We're not done yet! Come find us this Sunday, July 5 at The Deep Roots Farmers Market in Great Neck from 9am–1pm. We'd love to see you there!
