✨ Working on polite greetings ✨

Roe, the black Lab, is working hard on her no jumping skills! The yellow Lab is already a pro at keeping all four paws on the ground.

This video is from their While You’re Out Training Program where I come to your home twice a week to do the training repetitions for you. Before training, Roe’s excitement would come flying at you full force... she’d run and jump, push, and almost knock you down just to say hi!

Now, she’s learning that sitting politely or simply not jumping gets her all the love and attention she wants. I never want to take away a dog’s excitement or happiness, it’s all about channeling that joy and enthusiasm into calm, controlled behavior.

In this clip, Roe is happy, wagging, and offering sits instead of jumping, a perfect example of progress in action! 💛🐾

🕯️ October 27- Día de los Mu***os for Pets 🕯️

Today, October 27, is known as Día de los Mu***os for pets, a day to remember and celebrate the beloved animals who have passed on but continue to live in our hearts and memories.

Our pets fill our lives with unconditional love, laughter, and comfort. Even when they’re no longer here beside us, their spirit stays close in our memories, our routines, and the quiet moments where we still feel their presence. ✨

Let’s take today to honor those we’ve loved and lost. Drop a photo of your departed pet in the comments below to celebrate their life, the joy they brought, and the bond that time can never erase.

So here’s to the animals that changed everything... our hearts, our days, and our lives. We were the lucky ones to have loved them. 💛

Pictured below is my boy, Quincy... who I lost on 11/11/24. He’s the reason Modern Day Dog Training exists and the soul that continues to guide everything I do. My life will forever be altered without him here.

Alongside him is a photo of my pig, Sully, who I lost this past August at only a year old. My herd hasn’t been the same without his sweet, snuggly presence, he’s deeply missed by everyone.

Bear and Charlie are doing an amazing job holding their place during their board and train program! 🏆

In this video, I’m adding a big distraction by opening the front door, this has been extremely difficult for Bear to remain on his bed during any level of distraction. Both of them remain calmly on their beds until released.
This kind of impulse control work takes patience, consistency, and lots of practice. I’m so proud of the progress these two have made during their board and train program, keep up the great work! 💛✨

⭐ Charlie’s Loose Leash Success! ⭐

When Charlie first arrived for her board and train program, walking on leash was a full body workout... for both of us! 😅

She was a determined puller, but through patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, she’s learned that keeping slack in the leash and paying attention to me is what truly pays off.

At first, I used high value treats to help her understand what works:
👉 Pulling = no progress.
👉 Loose leash and focus = rewards, praise, and moving forward!

A lot of punitive or balanced trainers say, using food in training means you’ll always need treats... but that’s 1,000% false. The treats are a motivator, not a lifelong crutch. Once a dog understands the behavior and performs it reliably, we phase out food and transition to praise, affection, and life rewards.

In this video, Charlie’s walking nicely and happily with no treats at all. Her reward now? Verbal praise, petting, sniffing the world around her, and the simple joy of continuing the walk.

Way to go, Charlie! You’ve turned your walks into something both peaceful and enjoyable. Keep up the great work girl! 🏆💛

Meet Whiskey! 🐾

Whiskey is here for boarding while his family is out of town, and he’s been such a good boy! 💛 Fun-loving, happy, and full of personality, he’s been an absolute joy to have around.

Whether he’s soaking up attention, playing, or just hanging out, Whiskey’s nubbin never stops wagging. 🥹
Such a sweet boy and truly a pleasure to care for! ✨

🌸 Meet Pinky! 🌸

This is Pinky working so hard during her 2 Week Board & Train program, and she’s made such incredible progress! In this video, she’s practicing one of her new skills, going to her blanket (her “place”) and building duration by staying there until she’s called off.

When Pinky first arrived, she was very nervous, barking, growling, and unsure about her new environment (and me!). Pinky hasn't had much socialization as a pup so new people are pretty scary for her. Instead of forcing interaction, I gave her the space and time she needed to decompress. I’d quietly work on random projects in the same room so she could get used to my presence without pressure.

By day two, she started bumping my leg for attention... and the rest is history! We became fast friends, and her confidence just kept growing from there. ✨

Positive reinforcement training and respecting an animal’s emotional state for the win! 🏆🐾

Jackie working hard during her 5 Week Board and Train Program! ✨

Moments like this show just how far Jackie has come in her training! When she arrived, she struggled with impulse control and remaining calm in exciting situations. In the beginning, the doorbell would immediately have her barking and trying to get to the door or window to see what's going on outside the door. She would have a hard time remaining on her place without any distractions.

Now, she confidently holds her place even as I step outside, close the door, and ring the bell... calm, patient, and waiting for her release. Growth like this is what it’s all about. 💛🐾

Daisy and Cooper started their 2 Week Board & Train Program, when they arrived they would bark at just about everything that moved or made a sound.

Through calm structure and consistent place training, they’ve learned to stay focused and relaxed and even learned which bed belongs to who!

In this video, Cooper’s really put to the test… a knock at the door! He almost broke his stay, but caught himself and held his place, huge progress for a dog who used to bark nonstop at that same sound!

Keep up the great work you two! 🐾

🇺🇸 4th of July Safety Tips for Your Pup 🇺🇸

Did you know the 4th of July is the #1 day of the year when dogs go missing? The loud noises, flashing lights, and chaotic energy can be incredibly overwhelming for our furry companions. Let’s keep them safe, calm, and home where they belong this holiday!

🐾 Top Tips to Keep Your Dog Safe During Fireworks:

🔒 Secure your home & yard:
Double check gates, fences, doors, and windows. Dogs have been known to dig, jump, or bolt in panic when fireworks start.

📍 Make sure your dog is wearing ID:
Collars with current tags and a microchip with up to date contact info are lifesavers if your dog does get loose.

🏠 Keep them inside:
Even if your dog is usually fine outside, fireworks are unpredictable. Set them up in a quiet, secure area indoors with white noise, calming music, or the TV on.

🐕 Exercise early:
Take your pup for a long walk or play session earlier in the day so they’re more relaxed by evening. Try to take your dog out to go to the bathroom before it gets loud with the fireworks.

🍪 Offer calming enrichment:
Frozen Kongs, lick mats, chews, or a food puzzle can keep their minds busy while the booms begin.

💚 Comfort is okay!
If your dog seeks you out for reassurance, it's okay to comfort them. You're not reinforcing fear, you’re helping them feel safe!

💊 Use calming aids if needed:
There are natural calming aids available in pet stores and online. I've had good luck NaturVet H**p Quiet Moments Supplements. VetriScience Composure calming aids have high success rates as well. These can be found in most pet stores and on Amazon.

Let’s help make sure this 4th of July is full of celebration, not separation. Stay safe and give your pup a little extra love tonight! 🐾
