Bubba’s Story
Sorry we couldnt make it... because of Bubba. This is about him. The “Family Dog”.. so Family comes first.
He just turned 15!! Bubba has only spent about 12 weeks of his life without us. 8 were before we adopted him. Bubba was bred through Guiding Eyes for the Blind. A great organization that trains and provides seeing eye dogs. “Seeker” they called him. He needed too much human attention. He was released at 8 weeks to us. I like to call him a dropout!
He was a terrible puppy. Chewed stuff, Cried and p*ed. Picked on our older dog Blackjack. Barking and biting at him to play. Wanted so much attention. We couldnt go anywhere for very long. Sorry if we missed out on something. He took forever to go potty when it was raining or snowing. We got him a crate. He would p*e just to get out. To be with us.
He loved everyone. Nieces and nephews would ride him like a horse. He kept Blackjack going. Kept him young. Bubba was a great puppy .
Bubba got big. 70 lbs of muscle and a big head. Food is expensive. He’s terrible on a leash. Always pulling just to meet everyone. Jumps in the pool when we dont watch him. Takes forever to dry him off.
He loves his pool. So glad he had that pool.
Bubba has a universal blood type. He can donate blood. So sometimes with no notice we have to stop what we are doing to go to the hospital to give blood. Sorry if we missed you because of it.
Bubba doesnt know it but his blood has extended other dogs lives. Did you even know that was a thing?! He had a great job.
Bubba got a boutique. We had a shop at the local farm. Barking Bubba’s Boutique. Lots of stress as a side gig. Stocking it and helping customers. Probably missed out on parties and nights out..Bringing him made it way worse. Always pulling to sniff everything. Rolling in the dirt.
He just loved meeting people so much. Everyone wanted to meet Bubba and get a picture with him. They definitely spent more money at his store when he was there. Such great memories.
Bubba is 15 now. Cant hear us call him so we use hand signals mostly. He needs a lot of help every day. Sometimes he cant get up on his own. If we arent there he poops or p*es, sometimes while laying in it. Have to give him meds twice a day. Cant be away long. Falls while eating and spills food everywhere.
Sometimes i just sit with him and hold the bowl. He loves eating out of our hands. Hes so happy even though his back legs dont work sometimes. We dont even get mad when he walks and poops on the rug. When Elana gets home he acts 3 literally bouncing and running to greet her..Hes a great dog.
Today is the most painful part of this story. Bubba not himself. Turns out he bloated. Stomach twisted. We had to decide if he should have surgery. Maybe it will save him. But he is 15...He has suffered enough. His body is telling us it is time. So we said goodbye. Hurts so much. You could say its not fair that dogs don’t live long and this pain is not worth it. The vet bills. The life or death decisions. Missing out on events to check on or medicate a pet. But all this pain is because of all the love, loyalty and laughs he gave us. I think we gave him a great life too. No regrets here. I feel that dogs leave us so quickly so the true dog moms and dads can give many dogs loving homes and great lives. But its a (dogs) life long commitment. You have to prepare and take all the bad for the part that is truly so great.
This is Bubba’s story. Each dog lucky enough to be adopted for a lifetime has their own. Please consider the two different perspectives shown here before adopting. Know there is a financial burden. Know there is a commitment of free time. Know there is pain. Lots of pain at the end. But Bubbas life will never be a sad memory. Any hard parts were mere bumps in the road. We missed out on some parties and events. Sorry we couldn’t make it. But this was Bubba’s story. Bubbas life. He was worth it all.
