***NEW YEARSS EVE IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER***

Please don't leave your pets in your back yard while you leave home and don't let your "friends/family who watch your pets" leave them outside either. If you don't have a lock for your gate, a carabiner clip works well in most cases to help keep gates from bouncing open if they jump at it. Yeah, we'll hear "my dog is used to loud noises" yet those dogs still end up going missing sometimes as well. Besides 4th of july, the next busiest day for shelters is new years day. Boarding is also a safe option. It's cheaper to board, in most cases, for the night than to get your pet out of the shelter. It's also cheaper to be vigilant and actually WATCH your animals responsibly than to get them out of the shelter as well.
UPDATE YOUR PET'S I.D. NOW!!!!!

As a quick reminder, tomorrow, Tuesday October 31 is Halloween. As much fun as it may be for the little ones, and some adults, it can be a very dangerous time for our companion animals. Doorbells ringing, kids screaming, strangers at the door, and the like often frightens dogs and cats that will make every effort to escape it all by running away. Please contain your animal in a room with music or a TV running for distraction and where you can close the door to keep them safe and secure. Also, candy and, in particular, chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats. Please take care to keep the sweets away from the fur kids.

Plan ahead to keep your animals comfortable, contained, and safe!
Many other nearby high schools will be doing fireworks for their graduations too.

Hello,

Perhaps you heard me outside last night? Yes, that was me barking. I was scared and wanted to warn you of the danger. I remember this feeling from when I was a baby, abandoned on the streets, being scared, hoping that someone would come along and save me. Then someone caught me, all my brothers and sisters and took us to a nice place where we got baths and medicine, food and love.

That was when my life really changed. I saw you and your family walk into the shelter, I was so excited. Your little boy came right up to my cage, and I gave him lots of kisses. We all got in a car and went to a really nice place where we all played with toys, went for walks, chased squirrels in the back yard, took naps on soft comfy beds and had lots of yummy food and treats. I gave you all my love every day and only had minor accidents. I knew you loved me; we were happy, we were family.

But the little boy grew up, he got busy, and he stopped playing with me as much, you were too tired to walk me every day, so you put me in the back yard to run around by myself. That was fun for a while, but sometimes you forgot to bring me back inside. Those nights were scary, and some got really cold. Sometimes I had to bark to get your attention because you forgot about how much I love to cuddle and play with you inside and to curl up on my favorite bed. I would bark for hours. Sometimes you would let me inside and it was wonderful, but most times I would bark until I couldn’t bark any more and that made me sad. I wondered what I had done to make you not love me anymore.

And then last night those coyotes came, I was outside, I could hear them come closer and closer, I barked and barked and barked, but you must not have heard me. They jumped over the fence, (because they are really good at that) and they chased me all around the yard. At first I thought they might just want to play, but one of them bit me, it hurt. The others thought they would like to try a little bite too, I kept barking, telling them no, but they kept on biting me. I was really scared. I cried for you, barking as loudly as I could, but you didn’t hear me or perhaps you didn’t love me anymore. I was hurting so bad, one of my legs was no longer working and it was bleeding everywhere. The coyotes thought this was funny and kept biting me. I couldn’t keep them away and was feeling so very tired. I curled up, closed my eyes and fell asleep dreaming of all those days sleeping in the sun on my favorite bed, playing with the little boy, chasing the ball and the long walks we would take in the park.

I’m not sure what happened next, but now I am running around with a whole new group of friends, we play all day and have lots of fun toys. I don’t hurt any more, but I do miss seeing you, you were my family. I’m sorry I had to go away. I really hope I get to see you again so I can tell you how much I still love you.

This wind is crazy!!
Hey guys just a reminder that even if you have a latching gate and you don’t think the wind will open it… it’s better to be safe than sorry most latching gates will have a circle opening right on the bottom part of the latch. Put a padlock on it or something through there and then the latch cannot psychically open unless it’s removed.. let’s all add pictures to how we are securing our yards and gates for our pets this coming storm Incase anyone needs ideas!

Valentines safety tips for your pets:
You can express your love for your furry companions by ensuring they are safe and healthy this Valentine’s Day. Most of us know that chocolate is dangerous to dogs, but did you know that baking chocolate is especially toxic?
Beware! Sugar-free candies and gum contain large amounts of xylitol, a sweetener that is toxic to pets (especially dogs)? Roses and Valentine’s Day go hand in hand, but even a small nibble on a rose petal can cause upset stomach and vomiting in your dog or cat? In fact, these flowers can be fatally poisonous to cats! Keep your pets safe this Valentine’s Day. Give your dog or cat some extra attention, TLC and perhaps a new toy!
