Buzzards Big Hoss
2-11-12 to 2-20-25 😔
Goodbye to a Great One!! I can still remember the day we drove to Atwoods Farm Store to meet Jim Buzzard in Vinita, Oklahoma. From there we followed him back to his kennel in the country, where he walked us through and let is see all his dogs. A collection and testimony of his achievements with this breed. At that time he had been breeding ACDs for nearly 50 years. He handed over a Chunky Red Male Pup. Immediately the name Hoss came to mind and stuck. It fit him perfectly. He was exactly what I had asked Jim for. I loved Buzzards Thick Built, Block headed dogs. This was our second ACD we had aquired from Jim. The year before we picked up Kiah, our foundation female. This time, we were there for our foundation male. This was the beginning of our program at Hudsons ACDs.
Little did we know the impact that Hoss would have on our program and our daily lives on the farm. Our daughter Taylor was only 5 yrs old. Hoss and her became instant Buddies ❤️ At that time I still had my old red male, Buster. He was still my right hand man. So Hoss really took to Taylor. Eventually, I started taking Hoss along for chores, started training him and he picked it up so quick. He was a force to recon with on the cattle. He became my go to helper. He listened very well, I was able to cast him and give hand signals for directions. He was extraordinary, most ACDs prefer to work closely. But he did both really well. There wasn’t a momma cow or bull on the place that he would back down from. That instinct of grit and drive ran deep with him. He has left us with a line of tremendous offspring that we will continue to build from. We also had him collected and froze several years ago. So we will still have Hoss pups for years to come…☺️
It’s a shame dogs don’t live longer. He lived to be 13, and those years just flew by… It is better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all. We are thankful for the years of love and joy we experienced with him. So many great memories ❤️
Good boy Hoss! That’ll do….
It would put a smile on our faces to see pics of his offspring!! Please feel free to post one if you have it. Thanks 😉
