POOR COPPER.... Yesterday his ankle was just a little swollen, but he runs around jumping and playing like a maniac so I really just thought he jumped wrong on it. Well, this morning, his whole leg was double the size all the way to his shoulder. Call to the Vet, appt at 230. I already had an appt for Mia, because her foster said shes been scratching at her nose and face like its bothering her. So I was able to get them both in at the same time. Mia, fortunately the vet thinks its just allergies so she had an allergy shot, and script for steroids.

Poor Copper on the other hand, had a fever of 106.7, and a hell of an infection. Doc thinks he got bit by a spider or snake but we cant find ANY puncture wounds or anything. Doc lanced the spot by his ankle and drew out 6 oz of fluid. Gave him a shot for pain and pain meds to start tomorrow, a shot of antibiotics, steroids and scrips to start tomorrow. Through it all, the poking, draining, squeezing, he never growled or tried to bite and it HAD to hurt like hell. Even Doc remarked at what a good natured dog he is.

Copper is fully vetted and looking for his forever family, once he heals. For now say a prayer please for this sweet boy, and if you would like to donate toward his vet bill, or toward the care of any of our rescue pups, please do so via paypal at
[email protected]

You can also request an application at the above email. Donations can also be called into the vet, and put on our account. We have 2 currently going through HW treatment, (Mia and Peanut) 1 that needs a tooth pulled and full dental, (Peanut) 1 that will be spayed next week, (Mia) 1 that has to see a cardiologist regularily due to a grade 4 heart murmur, (Tater) and this with Copper was an unexpected expense. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Our vets info is below.

COURTESY POST... One of our amazing fosters reached out to me this morning asking for help with a 16 year old dog. Apparently the owner no longer wants the poor old girl. If a home or rescue isnt found by tomorrow, Monday 5 11 26, she will be dumped at an open intake shelter.

I have some choice words for the owner but that wont help find the poor dog a home. I cannot imagine a dog, 16 years old, spending her last days at a shelter.

If you can help this sweet old girl, please reach out to Cheryl Helsley.

The dog is spayed, but not up to date on shots.

PLEASE SHARE AND IF YOU CAN OPEN YOUR HEART AND HOME TO THIS SWEET SENIOR, PLEASE DO. SHE DESERVES HER LAST DAYS TO BE FILLED WITH LOVE, NOT SPENT SITTING IN A COLD SHELTER, JUST WAITING TO BE EUTHANIZED.

Hey friends, family, followers, meet Peanut.. AGAIN.. This older guy is still patiently waiting for his forever home. What would his perfect forever family look like you ask?? Well, Peanut can fit into nearly ANY situation. Peanut is pretty chill. He is dog, cat and kid friendly. He has lived with a foster that had other dogs, cats, horses and chickens, however due to a one time chicken incident, we dont recommend he live with chickens on the property. The "chicken eating" incident happened shortly after he had his eye removed and I fully believe the chicken caught him on his blind side and may have pecked at his "removal site". There has never been another incident since. In fact, he recently met 3 new dogs, 2 females and 1 male, and one of the females let a little growl at him and he turned and walked away. Even when "confronted" he is chill and 100% NON REACTIVE.

Peanut is an Aussie mix, about 8 years old. Fully vetted. Will be retested to check heartworm status because he recently finished treatment. Peanut was positive for Lymes, Erlichia AND Annaplasmosis, (in addition to HW). He has had the anitbiotics to treat all 3 but he may likely always test positive. No further treatment is necessary unless or until symptoms present.

Peanut knows how to sit and walks perfect on leash. Although he loves to run and play and his missing eye doesnt slow him down, care should be taken so he doesnt injure that area, since he cant see on that side. He is house and crate trained and is just an all around perfect gentleman.

If you are interested in making Peanut part of your family, please request an application via email at

If you need a running buddy, Stella is your girl. If you want a pup that will greet you at the door and give you hugs like you are their whole world, STELLA is your girl. This sweet pup didnt have the best start to her life, born outside, most of her siblings didnt survive. We tried for months and FINALLY got the owner to agree to surrender Stella to us when she started limping really bad and they couldnt afford the vet.

Stella is approximately 1 year old, mixed breed, a smaller girl at about 40 lbs, she is fully vetted, spayed, up to date on shots, on flea, tick and heartworm prevention, and microchipped.

Stella is dog friendly, playful, walks great on a leash, she will bark at a cat but doesnt have any aggression toward them. Stella would benefit from some basic training but does know how to sit. Stella is also crate trained and house trained. She LOVES to run and play, easily bringing a ball or toy back for more fun. Stella is great with respectful kids, and just an all around GREAT dog.

If you think you would like to add Stella to your family, please request an application by email
[email protected]

Home check, vet check required and any dogs in the home MUST be spayed or neutered.

Extra note about Stellas former life. She is mama Jasmine's puppy from her last litter prior to us getting Jasmine. We tried for over a year to get the owners to surrender Jasmine, but they refused. She was "cared for" just enough to meet the minimum standards so until they needed vet care, there wasnt anything more that we could do. We offered to spay Jasmine but initially they refused, and Jasmine had the litter with Stella. Stella was the only surviving puppy. When we found Stella limping, we were able to convince the owner to surrender her to us and allow us to spay Jasmine. But they still would not surrender Jasmine. Unfortunately by the time the spay appt came around, Jasmine was pregnant again.. and they would not allow us to spay her. When Jasmine got bumped by a car, according to the owner, is when they FINALLY agreed to turn her over to us. By then she was a couple days fron giving birth. So here we are..

Jasmine will be available for adoption as soon as her 8 puppies are weaned. If you are interested in fostering a puppy or 2, once they are weaned, (approx 6 more weeks, they are 12 days old now). Please email [email protected] and note FOSTER OFFER in the subject line.

I will post an update soon as I know more.
Thank you.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR A FOSTER, EXPERIENCED WITH PREG MAMAS AND WHELPING PUPPIES.

JASMINE WILL BE SPAYED AS SOON AS PUPPIES ARE WEANED. SHE IS VERY PREG WITH MILK. I KNOW ITS CONTROVERCIAL BUT I WILL NOT SPAY ABORT AT THIS STAGE.

UPDATE: She was not wanting to walk at all, when I got her to the vet thank God for the 2 wonderful Acos from Brunswick AC who carried her into the vet for me. I really thought she had a serious injury based on her not putting weight on her back legs. She had the exam, f***l, and xrays. Xrays were fine. She does not appear to have any broken bones, nothing odd looking internally, and it seems she has at least 6 puppies. She is very constipated, and the vet gave her a little pain meds to help her soreness. He wants to see her for a recheck on Monday. Hopefully the babies are ok and there are no complications.

Asking again, for an experienced foster. She is very sweet, all the moving around, putting her on her back, poking and prodding and she never even growled, or did anything out of the way. PLEASE if you can foster this mama, until she has and weans the puppies, please message me. We pay for everything, you just provive a safe home and love.

If you can donate toward her vet bill or care please check above.

Thank you!

Hey friends, family, followers.. We have a beautiful kitty, Callie, available for adoption. Last summer Callie was trying to survive and take care of her 7 kittens at a gas station in town. We managed to catch all her kittens and Callie actually let me pick her up and put her in a crate. Sadly only 1 of her kittens survived.

Callie is fully vetted, spayed, will be microchipped, and would like to find a nice home. Callie doesnt mind other cats, isnt bothered by dogs as long as they dont come charging at her. She mainly just likes to sit in the window and watch the world outside.

Callie MUST be kept inside. We do not adopt, indoor, outdoor cats. Callie is about 4 or 5 years old, and very sweet. She is not pushy for attention but allows me to pick her up, clip her nails, and likes to be petted.

Before she is adopted we will have an updated exam and needed testing, even though she was already tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV and was negative, we are happy to test her again.
She is currently on flea prevention, is litter trained and an all around very nice cat.

If you are interested in Callie, please request an application via email at
[email protected]

We also would be open to doing a rescue transfer to a reputable cat rescue. We work mainly with dogs, but the need locally for cats is so great we are trying to help all we can. If you are a rescue and are willing to take this pretty girl, please message us here or to my personal page, Rachel Riley-Hall.

Thank you

OVERDUE TATER UPDATE..
I apologize for not getting this update done sooner, but here it is.

SPECIAL PUP LOOKING FOR A SPECIAL ADOPTER

Tater, our poor pup that was found the day before New Years Eve.. For those that dont know, heres his story in brief.

Found dumped at the landfill, covered in wounds, appeared to be bite wounds, but also had several wounds that appeared to be intentional cuts or stabs, deep enough to go completely through to his body cavity. He had gangreen in his body cavity. He spent about 3 weeks at the Vet getting intensive care.

As if that wasnt bad enough, he has significant heart issues. He had an appointment with a Cardio specialist. He is now on 3 different meds that he will be on FOR LIFE. He also struggles with tummy issues at times.

He had his follow up with the Cardio Vet and he is doing well. He is gaining weight, and although his heartbeat can still be erratic at times, overall he is doing well.

Tater is available for adoption, HOWEVER, he will need a special adopter. He will require ongoing specialized care to keep his heart working as best as possible. He will need to be on these heart meds probably for the rest of his life, and his lifespan may be shorter than a pup with a normal heart. As he grows his meds may need to be adjusted or changed. For now the cost for his meds is under $100.00 per month, but that may change.

Tater gets along with other dogs, but can be pushy at times.

While we NEVER EVER adopt unaltered animals, the Cardiologist said that neutering him may be very dangerous and possibly deadly to him. This heart stuff is new to us, and we will continue to take guidance from his Cardiologist and follow their advice. So at this point, he is not neutered, but MAY be able to be in the future. It all depends on his heart function and how well the meds continue to work. WE WILL FOLLOW WHATEVER ADVICE AND INSTRUCTION HIS CARDIOLOGIST GIVES US. So having said that...

If you are interested in adopting Tater, and meet the following extra requirements, please request an application by emailing
[email protected]

Extra requirements to be considered for adoption, (in addition to the basic things we require)

Tater MUST have a Cardiologist. Either one in the area the potential adopter lives, OR must be willing to continue with his current Cardiologist who is in the Richmond Virginia area.

Taters family MUST be committed to making sure he has his meds, EVERY DAY.

Tater does a really good job of self regulating, and not over doing it, BUT it needs to be clearly understood that he CANNOT be allowed or made to run for long periods. He can mostly play like a normal puppy, but a 5 mile walk, run, for example would NOT be something he should do.

These are the couple BIG ones so to speak, and as we work with his Dr, there may be adjustments. We just want to make sure Tater, after all he has gone through, and how hard he fought to survive against all odds, that he has the best care to live the longest life possible, as he deserves.

Tater is a very special pup. He survived, and fought hard to live, despite all the odds being stacked against him. If you are interested in this little, goofy, snuggle bug, please request an app by emailing
[email protected].

THANK YOU. AND A HUGE THANK YOU TO Audra Horton for being such an amazing foster mom to Tater. Your dedication to his care does not go unnoticed!!

I apologize for not updating sooner but its been a rough ride personally lately. I lost my heart dog, my boy, my Bashful, after a short battle with lymphoma, (we think). Although Id love to just take some time, rescue never stops, emergencies always seem to happen so here is the latest from the Snoots crew...

Im sure you all remember Tater, our gangreen pup. Found by ac at the landfill, beat up, possibly stabbed, near death, day before new years. He has been in an amazing foster home and had been doing very well. Until a couple weeks ago. He just really wasnt himself, but nothing overly concerning. Then the bloating started. Over a couple week period his belly started to bloat, he had a little diareah, so we thought, parasites.. He was seen by the fosters vet for a full blood panel, f***l both in house and sent out.. All looked good. Thank God for 2 other rescuers who said, Hmmmm maybe get his heart checked. In fact one even offered to pay for him to be seen at their cardio Dr. So this past Thursday off he went. The results were SHOCKING. This boys heart is a mess. I cant even begin to explain it all, but both sides have significant issues. Issues that will most certainly shorten his lifespan, and may prevent us from ever being able to safly neuter him. He will have to be on heart meds for life. He will need ongoing tests to check his heart and monitor how meds are working. This is not something we needed, and he CERTAINLY didnt need. The Cardio Dr drained 3 LITERS of fluid out of his abdomen. Since then he has been perking up, and is being more his goofy self. We just want to send a huge shout out to Taters foster parents Audra and Dwayne, and to Jackie Stanley and Kathy Calabrese for taking my calls and talking me through all this and giving advice and especially to Maes Mutts Rescue for helping us so much and covering Taters bill. We could not have done it without all of you.
Please pray for Tater. This boy has fought so hard to live when nobody thought he would, he certainly deserves a long life and a healed, normal heart.
Thank you!!
