These handsome boys spent the day with us recently to get neutered!
Neutering your dog is one of the best ways to support their long-term health and well-being 🐾
Neutered dogs often have a lower risk of certain cancers, unwanted behaviors, and roaming tendencies — helping them live healthier, safer lives. It also plays an important role in reducing pet overpopulation in our communities.
Have questions about when to neuter your pup? Our team is here to help guide you every step of the way ❤️

Sweet Louise got to hang out with us for the afternoon a bit ago so we could collect her urine. Urinalysis is a very important test that we do regularly on senior pets. It allows us to evaluate kidney function, detect metabolic disease like diabetes, and detect a urinary tract infection or urinary crystals.

The first step of the urinalysis is a test strip that evaluates things like pH, urine protein, glucose, and other things. Next, the specific gravity is checked with a refractometer. Then, we evaluate the urine sediment under the microscope to check for crystals, bacteria, and anything else that may be found.

We loved seeing Tallis for his dental today, he is such a sweet boy!

Dental care is very important for cats to prevent or treat periodontal disease. Dental cleanings and x-rays allow us to remove plaque and tartar and evaluate the oral health of your cat comprehensively. Many cats are very good at hiding pain and won't let you look in their mouth, which is why it is important to have dental cleanings done on a regular basis. Keeping the mouth clean also benefits the heart, liver, and kidneys. Help keep your cat healthy, and consider a dental cleaning!

It's Pet Cancer Awarness month. It is very important, especially as our pets age, that we are aware of signs of cancerous changes and that our pets get regular check ups, including bloodwork and urinalysis. Some things to look for are: sudden, unexplained weight loss, lethargy, enlarged lymph nodes, pain or swelling, difficulty breathing or coughing, impaired healing, abnormal bleeding, urinary changes, and any sort of lump or bump. These are not definitive, but they all warrant a check up with your veterinarian.

You can also check their mouth for any lumps or bumps at home, feel their whole body for any lumps, bumps, or pain by petting them all over, and paying close attention to their behavior.

The only way to know whether a lump is cancerous or not is by taking your pet to the veterinarian and doing a fine needle aspirate or having the lump removed sent out to the lab for further evaluation.

If you have noticed any of these things on your pet, give us a call at 540-822-4738!
