Golden Kid Alert!
Owner: Paulo Rogerio | Dam: Metallic Chereykee | Sire: Shining Spark
This palomino weanling is rocking that classic gold coat with a light mane and tail—and here’s the cool part: palomino isn’t a breed, it’s a color created by genetics. One copy of the cream dilution gene (Cr) on a chestnut base (ee) = palomino. That single gene lightens red pigment into shades from pale champagne to rich copper, while the mane/tail stay creamy.
Most palominos have dark skin (markings can show pink), brown to amber eyes, and a coat that changes with the seasons—sun can bleach them lighter in summer, then they deepen again after a good shed. Foal coats are sneaky, too: the true shade usually settles after the first or second shed, so patience pays.
Fun breeding fact: two palomino parents (each Crcr) can produce ~25% cremello (double cream), ~50% palomino, ~25% chestnut—color genetics really is a puzzle!
Whether light gold or deep bronze, it’s the same classic look that’s turned heads from show pens to movie sets for decades. Color doesn’t make the athlete—but it sure makes every barn walk feel like golden hour.
