Happy December 1st - Happy Monday 🙂
This post comes a bit late but I wanted to express my appreciation to this young boys parents for being so patient with us teaching Xander
Allow me to give you a bit of background on Xander
When he first came to SWFL Horses his older brother was learning to ride horses Mom asked can we give Xander a “pony ride” of course we can !!!!
He would scream as we lifted him onto the horse
Once he was in saddle he would stop screaming and enjoy the ride
It was just as difficult to get him down - fear was the biggest factor for him.
Fast forward 3 years later he is now getting on his horse by himself neck reining , doing poles and barrels
Lead line but it has been amazing to watch his transformation

Mom’s words :

diagnosis which include, autism, cerebral palsy, ADHD, developmental delay, noonas syndrome, multiple cardiac conditions and a portion of his lung has been removed.

He's always had a hard time sticking to activities because anything we can do takes him 3x the mental and physical effort. Combine that with prior instructors and peers who do not care to take the time to understand and and work with him, he's set up to fail.

Big thing I'd love to highlight is horse riding has given him a safe inclusive outlet to grow and learn. It's helped with his body awareness and I've seen him become more sure of himself and take risks like getting on and off the horse by himself. His sense of accomplishment and personal growth have been amazing to witness. He's so proud of himself and his best horse.
Also the friends he's made in the other riders and their parents. The unwavering support of the barn has been so appreciated and a large part of why he has been able to grow as much as he has.

So when you see Xander at the next PGHA speed show you have a little insite on just how far he has come !

SWFL Horses is witnessing numerous inspiring events, but occasionally, the positive is offset by sadness. We have said goodbye to our beloved Stewie. For 14 years, Stewie has been Coach's faithful companion since a pup , and for the past 8 years, he has been an integral part of the SWFL Horses family with Coach and me. He has touched the hearts of many individuals and will be profoundly missed, forever occupying a special place in our hearts. Farewell, my friend, until we meet again.

Today was an extraordinary day for the children and adults at SWFL Horses. It commenced with a cup of coffee with Coach at 4:30 AM, followed by feeding the horses, loading the trailer with necessary equipment, and departing for the PGHA Performance show. Several speed team attended to offer their support. As the gate person, I ensured the show ran smoothly, making it an enjoyable experience for all. Upon returning to the barn, Coach unloaded the horses and riders, and provided a meal of spaghetti sauce, meatballs, garlic bread, and pasta. After dinner, the children relaxed in the big oak tree. Mike, a parent, trimmed the pepper trees along the arena line after transporting the children and equipment. Following speed practice under the lights, the day concluded. It was an incredible day spent with a fantastic team of children and parents alike. We are truly grateful for this life.
