A Pint-Sized Rescue

A Pint-Sized Rescue A pint-sized rescue, operated by a pint-sized human, helping pint-sized animals.

Mission Statement:
A Pint-Sized Rescue’s mission is to aid any small mammalian exotic animal in need within the Palouse and surrounding areas, giving each a fighting chance through health, safety, love, compassion, and commitment.

Core Values:
A Pint-Sized Rescue will never turn away any animal in need, but provide guidance to the appropriate resources if the animal does not fall into our catego

rization of 'small mammalian exotics,' or if we cannot provide the appropriate help for the animal. We will always provide the best care possible to all animals within our care, to include proper housing, nutrition, and veterinary medicine. We will show unconditional love, affection, and patience to all animals, no matter their history. We will always guarantee safe placement into future homes and promise to our animals they will always have a place here with us should those homes fail to work or if they are not suitable for placement. Individually, we might not have the power to change the whole world, but we have the power to change their world.

Available for adoption:
Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo are looking for the perfect picnic basket do dive into. *Ehem* I mean, they are looking for the perfect place to kick up their feet and call home.

These two young adult males, Yogi – 9 months & Boo-Boo – 11 months, were surrendered due to facing eviction. They were very well cared for in their previous home and are truly very sweet little guys, however a bit shy at first. In a home to call their very own, we have no doubts that these boys will come out of their shells and bond closely with their new humans.

Keep your pets safe and cozy this Independence Day and any other celebration day of the year by following these steps.

1: Turn background sound on such as a radio, television, air purifier, fan, etc, and consider turning them up a bit louder than you typically would. Also, consider choosing a tv show that has lots of random sounds, not just a steady, calm sound. This will help break up the booms from fireworks and cause less startling.

2: Make sure all cages are securely closed up, windows and doors are closed, and consider pulling curtains, blinds, or drapes closed to block out flashing lights. If you cannot close doors or windows due to the temperature, consider moving cages to a more central area of the house or even a closet – just make sure there is still adequate airflow.

3: Move cages away from walls. This will help dampen vibrations that come through the foundation and gives some extra space between the boom of fireworks and the cage.

4: Free roam any caged animals prior to sunset/when fireworks typically begin. The loud sounds and vibrations from fireworks can and likely will cause stress during free roam. To minimize the risk of injury, escape, or elevated stress, complete free roams prior to the start of fireworks to ensure the critters are safely tucked away in their beds by the time the fireworks begin.

Celebrate safely for you and for them. 💜

It’s always the haunting season for Ghost. He doesn’t care if it’s October, April, or June. Ghost loves a little spooky fun… and all the tasty treats that come with it! He is asking for your help in filling his candy basket. Will you help the little guy out?

*All donations go directly towards veterinary and care expenses (food, bedding, enrichment) for the animals in our care. You may also specify one of our current critters for your funds to aid.

Donations can be made through Venmo or Paypal @ apintsizedrescue.

Little Ghost experienced his first true human affection today. Snuggling in his new ghost themed snuggle pouch with his best friend, Lambchop, ghost learned what human patience and affection can look like. Within just a few minutes in the snuggle sack, with a human hand inserted for scent familiarization, little Ghost was popcorning all over the place and giving my hand lots of little kisses.

Ghost came in just two days ago, June 13th, as a feeder-failed (little survivor) with a broken leg. Ghost is only 4 weeks old and very, very much a little baby still. He is on very strict cage rest and pain medications to help his leg heal, so snuggle time is the best enrichment we can give him at this time. And it will make such a big difference for his happiness and his trust in humans as he grows up. And the little man is grooming my hand as I post this.

We do not support live feeding animals and never will. There are more humane alternatives and no excuses for subjecting predator and prey to the risks of live feeding in a domestic setting. When it is fully in our control, there simply is no excuse. No animal is “just one animal” or “just one life.” They ARE a life and they deserve every bit of respect and chance at life that any other life does.

*INTAKE ALERT*
Little Ghost, named after Jon Snow’s direwolf from Game of Thrones, is just a tiny baby boy, but that doesn’t make him any less of an incredible little fighter.

Ghost came to us as a feeder-fail with an obvious leg injury (suspected broken upon first sight). We took him straight to the Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital where he was squeezed in for an emergency exam. X-rays showed that he has a broken tibia with remodeling already occurring in the form of callusing. With the risk of further injury if callus removal was attempted, we decided that the best course of treatment would be to keep him on very strict cage rest and pain medications for two weeks, with a follow-up exam and x-rays in one week. If you would like to know more about why callus removal is risky, please message us. I’d rather not post those “flaggable” words here, but it’s good education to have.

If everything goes well with his healing, little Ghost should grow up strong and healthy, with just a bit of a deformed but still semi-functional leg. If things go sideways with the healing process, then Ghost will likely go in for an amputation. Either way, we are going to give this little fighter every single fighting chance he deserves at living his most fulfilling and fruitful life.

Do you want to help Ghost? We are always in need of donations for our veterinary funds. Donations can be made at our local Pets Are People Too pet shops or through Venmo/Paypal at .

Thank you for your continued support.

Our sweet boy with the big heart, our little warrior man Gideon needs your help.

As you all know, Gideon was born with a severe heart defect that has had him on medications since he was ten weeks old. Our perfect little man had a medical emergency last week which required an overnight stay in the ER and multiple tests, including a new echocardiogram, the following day. He has since been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension secondary to his heart defects and was prescribed a significant increase in both of his heart medications. These medications make Gideon’s continued happiness and comfort in life possible.

We couldn’t provide to our rescue animals the level of care that we do without the support and donations from our supporters – people like you. You make all the difference in the world to these little ones and give them the fighting chances that they deserve.

You can make donations to our veterinary funds through Venmo or Paypal .

We have so many precious baby mice looking for their forever homes.

Do you know why mice make good pets?
• They are incredibly fun to watch as they dig tunnels, solve puzzles, and explore their highly enriching enclosures
• They bond closely with their people
• Females thrive in groups while males prefer to live alone, making having a solo small pet an ethical option (which is not ethical with rats)
• Enclosure setup and design can be just as fun for the people as it is for the mice

We currently have 2 girls and 4 boys born on April 14th and 5 girls and 7 boys born on May 7th. The first litter are ready to go now and the second will be ready to go in two weeks on June 13th. They are darling little things with a lot of s***k and personality. They will bond closely to their people with time, love, and lots of tasty treats of course.

We just want to say a very big thank you to those who stepped up in our great time of need and made donations of physical supplies to help us with our 19 mice!

As a small animal rescue, we take in any species of small animal in need, but rats have long been our main species here. This left us with quite the gap of supplies when we took in momma Elsa and her six pups, then 12 more who were born three weeks later. We put a call out to our community for help and you all stepped up! From the bottom of our hearts here at a Pint-Sized Rescue, thank you 💜.

Thank you Rat Way Sanctuary. Thank you Whitman County Humane Society. And thank you to numerous private parties! 🫶🏼 It truly takes a village.
