Ambulance Flynn! 🚑 When driving by our fire station today, I noticed they were having an “Open House.” So I did something pretty uncharacteristic of me - I stopped! They let Flynn check out one of the ambulances and she wasn’t phased a bit. There were also a ton of kids and she was so good at ignoring them! Plus a person in a Dalmatian character costume and she didn’t care about that either. We met an IV tech who was really nice and offered to let us come down on a normal day to check out an ambulance when they could turn on equipment, etc. My last ambulance ride was about a year-and-a-half ago, and while I don’t plan on ever needing one again, you never know! I’m definitely glad I stopped - it was a very positive experience for both Flynn and I! 🚑🚒🚨 1 year

What kind of dogs do chemists have? Labrador retrievers, of course! This is true for my ma who is getting her degree in chemistry with pre-pharmacy credentials. Today she had her chemistry course final. One of her accommodations for her disabilities is taking exams in private rooms! For the chem department, that means taking them in an actual lab. While there were no chemicals being used, mom put on my booties just to keep my paws safe from any spills or broken glass. Also, sneak a peak at the new vest she made me! 👀⚗️🐕

Hey y’all!

I have been quite horrible about keeping this page updated. Oops 😂 my goal is to start posting more, so be on the lookout!

Here are some updates:

- Flynn and I both had surgery right before Thanksgiving break, putting us out of commission for a bit. We’ve both recovered and are doing great, so public access training has resumed!

- We’ve hit the teenage years and often respond to a command by doing whatever “trick” sounds good to us. A lot of our training is just focusing on the basics right now as we ride out this stage of growing up.

- Right now, task training involves retrieving medications for me. We’ve also been working on some pressure points, particularly having Flynn bring to my attention when I’ve got the anxiety leg shaking action going on. Mostly we’ve worked on this at home during training sessions. She hasn’t naturally tasked yet, but I think we’re getting really close!

- I finally got my (really crappy) sewing machine in Pullman and have recently gotten into making Flynn her own vests. I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback on them and have considered opening an Etsy shop. I’m a little worried that I won’t be able to keep up with the shop and will fall behind in school because of my degree (chemistry with a pre-pharm emphasis and business minor) so I may start easy with making custom leashes for now! Be prepared to see pictures of my creations on this page until I decide what to do!

Some pics of Flynn over the past few weeks, along with a few vests I’ve made! 👇🏼

What the heck are these things mom put on my paws?! She says they're going to keep me safe in certain weather conditions, but they just make me want to zoom as fast as I can from place-to-place! I definitely need to get used to these strange things. 🤔🐾👠

Putting our "up" command to use! Opening doors is mostly just for fun, but it's good practice and helps me understand there are multiple ways to use "up." 🐕♿️🚪

In other good news, I naturally used my "tuck" command for the first time right after this video! Mom was so excited and gave me a lot of praise.

Meeting and being comfortable around different kinds of people is important for a pup in training! WSU Police has been an extremely valuable resource for my mom, and she appreciates everything they've done for her. She was excited to snag a picture of one of their officers and me. I hate having my picture taken, but this person was really fun to hang out with! He wore some heavy-looking gear that had all sorts of cool new smells for me to sniff. Thanks for letting me meet you Officer Westerman! 🚓👮🏻🐕

This is my adopted Uncle Jessup who's a guide dog in training through Guide Dogs for the Blind! Jessup came back to Pullman after being in Oregon for the summer, so we've been going on lots of outings recently. He's been a good influence on this learning pup!
