🐾 Training Tip Thursday: the best training doesn't happen in a training session. 🐾

Every interaction with your dog is a teachable moment. A chance for them to practice making a good decision. Here's what that looks like in real life: At the door before a walk, wait. If your dog is calm, the door opens. If they push or jump, it stays closed. No cue needed. No saying "sit" over and over again. The door does the teaching, and your dog starts to learn that calm choices are what open the door!

Time for dinner, time for the leash, time to head outside? Instead of asking for a sit, try just waiting a beat. Give your dog the chance to offer the behavior themselves. Maybe it's a sit, maybe it's just a second of calm, maybe it's eye contact. Whatever it is, reward it when it shows up on its own.

Dogs who are used to thinking through their options tend to end up calmer and easier to live with than dogs who are just following a cue on command. You're not asking for compliance here. You're building a dog who knows how to make good decisions, and who trusts that good things follow when they do. 🐶

Boogie needed his bath for the show tomorrow so we headed to Tails and Toe Beans. He was singing his collie song and was only slightly happier with his new chew 😂

Cuteness alert!!!!! Phoebe a 7 month old puppy came in for some shopping , a nail trim and nice warm bath. She did so good! We love to see your pups and cats come see us at 73 west Main Street Pulaski.

I have some exciting news! Two of the staff at Pulaski County Animal Shelter just dropped some pet tags that you just have to scan a QR code and put your information in they are free. They also dropped off some bagged dog food if your a little short on food stop by Tails and Toe Beans to grab a couple bags it’s free and no questions asked and no judgment!!!

Hey everyone we are a HUGE supporter of Pulaski County Animal Shelter!! Wanted to share with everyone that they are having an adoption event on Saturday from 10:00am-2:00pm that have some great dogs there that would love to have a loving family. When you adopt from then you will get a a gift bag and in the gift bag there will be a coupon from us to spend on your new pet!

REALITY: Puppies are learning every moment they are awake! Exploring the world around them, watching their dog (or human) siblings, and trying to understand how to fit into our world. �

While it is true that puppies have short attention spans, that doesn’t mean they can't understand things we want to teach them. With positive-reinforcement and reward-based methods (and lots of patience) there is no reason they can’t start learning from a very young age. Every interaction you have with your puppy is a teaching moment, and the earlier you start, the sooner things start to click for them!��

Keep training sessions short and keep them fun. Your relationship with your dog will be better for it. 🐾
