Meet the RIPTA Rider of the Week 🚌

Dally rides the bus to her job at Roger Williams Park Zoo & Carousel Village where she works as a horticulturist, tending to the plants and keeping the zoo grounds looking beautiful.

Before that, Dally rode the bus to Rhode Island College (RIC) where she attended school. Her favorite part about commuting by bus? Passing time by playing Pokémon on her Game Boy.

Happy , Dally!

Where’s the red crown? 👀 Young female red-crowned cranes start off brown and fluffy, but as they mature, their plumage turns that iconic crisp white with black wingtips.

Around 2–3 years old, that famous red “crown” of bare skin begins to appear and deepen in color. Females tend to be slightly smaller, but just as striking!

Happy World Golden Lion Tamarin Day! 🧡

Did you know that between 1997 and June 2024, the Save the Golden Lion Tamarin organization and their partner organization in Brazil, Associação Mico-Leão-Dourado (AMLD), has successfully restored 1,110 acres of degraded pastureland for GLTs? This restored forest is equivalent to more than 800 football fields lined up side by side!

Restoration includes planting native trees to bridge gaps between forest patches, and creating essential corridors for golden lion tamarins to move, feed and find mates safely. You can help plant trees to save GLTs, too! Visit www.savetheliontamarin.org/grow-trees-campaign to learn more.

For more about this species and ways you can celebrate through crafts and activities visit: www.savetheliontamarin.org/annual-glt-day. 😄

Join us on Nantucket Island as we monitor the endangered American burying beetle! Our team had an incredible trip, catching nearly 100 wild beetles, counting 555 larvae, and provisioning 195 broods.

This 31-year reintroduction project is vital for our ecosystem. American burying beetles are nature's recyclers, decomposing dead animals and returning essential nutrients to the soil.

This program's success is thanks to your support and our amazing partners: Nantucket Conservation Foundation, The Nature Conservancy Block Island, USFWS, RI DEM, and Maria Mitchell, along with countless dedicated volunteers and interns. Together, we're bringing endangered species back to the wild!

Two hot new bombshells have entered the Farmyard! 😍 Meet Nermal (1 year old) and Maureen (2 years old), our two new female donkeys. The girls strutted into the Farmyard today, and are ready to make new connections! ❤️

The inside of the barn will be temporarily closed as they are acclimating to their new space and fellow farm friends, but they do have outdoor access. As always, please be gentle and mindful when interacting with them!
