Rory had a tailgate party on Christmas Eve with this wonderful young couple Jason Duncan and his soon to be bride Kara. Jason shot this buck Christmas Eve morning about 9:00 and was worried about the shot being low as he saw white hair and stomach content at the hit site. He also noted the bucks direction of travel and did the right thing by backing out and slipping out of the area and got back to his truck. He reached out through Tennessee Blood Trailing Network asking for assistance. He and I discussed the shot and decided we'd give the buck plenty of time and meet about the 12 hour mark. It's always best to err on the side of caution when you can. Once we arrived, after getting her ready, Rory took the line over 200 yards to where Jason's early Christmas present laid in the creek. The buck hadn't been expired very long as he was still warm although he had been in the cold water not far from where Jason last seen him turn and leave the field. As Rory was working her way the last 15 yards or so to the buck, Kara spotted him and we watched as the little red girl finished the line. This wasn't a real tough track but I'm still very proud of this little red Bloodhound Charles Eric Miller and Leah Sheppard Miller .... Dallas would be proud, she has his love for the water. Congratulations Jason and Kara! Can't wait to see you both the 8th of August as you start the journey as husband and wife. Merry Christmas and God Bless Y'all! ... We got to go after a sure nuff good'n last night, Scott Echols and his pup Slate made short work of this one, approximately 500 yards in under 20 minutes and had him. The young man in this picture "Newby" shot this giant yesterday morning as he was coming out of his shooting house when he saw a doe with this toad in tow. He made a quick shot on him then gave him over an hour before he and his dad took up the trail. After 150 yds they saw the big deer get up and take off. They called me shortly afterwards and after hearing all the details we decided to err on the side of caution and treat it like a gut hit. We went in about the 11 hr mark and it was a good thing we did as it appears the buck tried to break cover for the last time when the dog got to him, or shortly before. The shot did in fact exit through the gut, so we were still very lucky we hadn't got their any earlier. Congratulations Newby on your 3rd 150+.13 scoreable points one for each year of Newby's young life!

Youth season 2025 in the books... Kind of a bummer.... 2 live deer with visual eyes on. 1 deer finished and loaded after we left. The 2 live will most likely survive and will provide future hunting opportunities. To say the briars were not kind is an understatement. Either way, I'm sure glad I was blessed to spend some time with FIsher McKay and Valerie Scott! Two bright and smiling faces. Maybe better next year!

I wish I had $1 for every bad advice comment I see in the hunting pages when a hunter asks for advice. I’d be rich. These poor guys are obviously in a bad situation and they get misled by these guys who clearly do not know what theyre talking about and definitely arent sure what kind of sign/blood is on an arrow. I seen one guy bashing a kid because his headlamp died and he was using his phone light, calling him unprepared and saying he shouldnt even be hunting. Established trackers track as many deer in a week as most of these guys track in a decade and the good trackers wont even lead someone to believe that we could guarantee what the blood on the arrow is from. Occasionally yea there’s clear sign but it’s mostly guessing. The most I’ll ever tell someone when they send a bloody arrow pic is either, “looks pretty good”, or “cant tell much from that”.All that blood means is that the deer is bleeding, it doesnt mean it’s dying. Then the smartest guy on the comments says “I’d probably get a dog out there” and 10 guys who probably never shot a deer with a compound try to argue with him. Jesus help our sport- Please be respectful in the comments. We believe in respecting other sportsmen, no matter their opinion or style of hunting/tracking. I don’t want this post to turn into the very thing it was made about.
