Spring Windermere 2025 was a successful, if wet, show. At least I was sitting in the barns when the crazy rainstorm went through and not caught out on course or in the ring!

Both horses got good dressage scores (29.7 for Valor and 30 for Gracie. I’m consistent I guess 😂). Valor had some issues leaving warmup at the startbox but once past jump one and through the tree line had a focused, careful, cross country round.
Poor Gracie had to do her first beginner novice as a mud run. She handled the terrain well; she was a little more cautious than Val but that’s to be expected. She glanced off two of the “scarier” jumps that were pretty muddy at the base but circled around and went right over them. Gracie was the last to go in the division and it looked like a couple jumps had been painted with a brown stripe of mud down the middle 😂

Both horses were pretty slow around the course but I preferred that they have a confidence boosting run in what’s the muddiest terrain either has seen yet than to try and push for speed. The footing at Longview held up pretty well and I was pleased that neither horse ever felt in danger of slipping or loosing their grip.

I didn’t ride either perfect in show jumping but felt that both had major improvements there and came away better educated from the experience.

Looking forward to Silverwood in July!

We had a great first show of the year at the IADCTA:Iowa Dressage and Combined Training Association Spring Ahead show!

Lincoln had his first outing in a year and a half and feels very sound and steady ❤️

Emmy overcame the terrifying open garage door to put in a lovely test, getting high point in the open division.

Savannah showed Egg for the first time and he was a bit of a handful but she did great with him and was able to ride some accurate tests even with his hollering.

Liz and Izzy were superstars, only Izzy’s second show ever and they rode some very pleasant and lovely tests. Liz also got high point amateur!

Fingers crossed this bodes well for the rest of the year!

Well I don’t have all the awards in hand but waiting any longer to do a 2024 brag post feels weird so here we go!

Overeasy (Egg) was USEA area IV beginner novice horse champion and IaDCTA beginner novice champion.

Act of Valor HOF was IaDCTA beginner novice reserve champion.

Emmy KCF was USDF all-breeds training level reserve champion for the friesian horse association.

Geertsje D.V. was 5th in all-breeds at first level for the friesian horse association.

I can’t thank Natasha Arritt and Rodney Van Wyk enough for supporting these horses and their careers. Here’s to a a great 2024 and hopefully an even better 2025 🥂

We had a wonderful clinic weekend with John Staples! I was lucky enough to ride 4 different horses throughout the weekend; but I don’t think I have video of Gertie or Lincoln. Here are Valor and Gracie working on moving forward to jumps and jumping correctly.

We are so excited to host John Staples this weekend! Attached is the schedule, auditors are welcome.

Unique opportunity to part-lease a wonderful horse in an active eventing and dressage program!

Bandit is a 10yr old 14.2h pinto. He’s competed with his AA owner at USDF regional championships in training level, first level, and in the dressage equitation championships, and been in the top 10 multiple times. He’s also schooling 2nd level with good lateral work and easy gaits.

Bandit has done local h/j shows with good results up to 2’3”, schools up to 2’6” at home, and has been cross country schooling many times. He’s a safe and sane jumper.

Owner is looking for an on-site 2 day/week leasee. Leasee will be required to take a minimum number of lessons per month. Barn is just outside of Norwalk, IA.

PM for more information.

I’ve been sitting on this news for a while, because it almost hasn’t seemed real. 2025 is going to see a huge change for MH Eventing as I’m leasing a farm starting January!

It’s hard saying goodbye to Pine Hollow Stables. I’ve been there for 5 years and I can’t thank Deana Millington Gast enough for giving me the opportunity to work there and get started. I wouldn’t be here now if not for her.

The new barn is just south of Norwalk, IA. It’s been maintained really well and I think the horses will love it.

If you’re interested in hauling in for lessons or simply visiting us text me at 4026777434.

USDF regional championships 2024 is in the books! We didn’t get any big wins this year, but got 3rd in two of our first level classes and Geertsje really gave me a great effort in the open first level championship class and the new professional’s equitation challenge.

It is so rewarding to attend regionals for the second year on a horse I started. For those who don’t know, I started Gertie at the end of her 3yr old year. She is just 6 now and has now been to her second regional championship!

What a great weekend at Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center, LLC!

Bandit showed in the jumpers with Savannah and hunters with Danielle. He was such a good boy in both and both riders had their best jumping show yet with a lot of great rounds.

Egg took Rowdie around her first English show and they even snagged reserve champion in cross rail jumpers on Sunday!

I showed Deb Clinch’s Gracie in the .75 jumpers where she had a super educational weekend and even beat the thoroughbreds a couple times 🥇

Liz went to her second show ever, Izzy’s first show, and had a fabulous test. Almost 72% to win a blue at their first show!

Maffitt put on a great show as always. It was wonderful to take students and training horses and have everyone do so well over the weekend.

As always we couldn’t do this without everyone who supports the horses and their riders 💜Pine Hollow Stables Nexus Saddlery MidWest Saddle Fit Cale Danielson

Have you ever thought to yourself, ”I really wish I had merch for my favorite Eventing/dressage/lesson pony extraordinaire Egg”?

Now you can! There’s multiple color options available, and MH Eventing shirts and hats as well. Unfortunately I did wear that shirt for more than 10 minutes in a barn and it became too dirty to get good pictures of. I know that’s not what y’all are excited for anyway.

Our Story

Mallory Huggins is a young professional with a focus in English riding styles. She is passionate about helping every rider achieve their goals – whether that’s gaining confidence on the trails, learning how to jump, or competing at the top levels of their sport. With her experience training OTTBs and starting horses under saddle, she produces safe horses with good “rideability” in any discipline.

She started taking riding lessons when she was 8, and soon began leasing a horse. She spent her teenage years showing in 4H, open shows, and trail riding. When she moved to Ames to attend Iowa State University, Mallory bought a young thoroughbred and started her eventing career.

She spent a summer as a working student for FEI dressage trainer Missy Fladland. At Missy’s La Riata Ranch, she not only developed her dressage education, but also learned groundwork from Missy and her husband Kip Fladland; who worked with Buck Brannaman.

After graduating from ISU, Mallory returned to working at La Riata Ranch before accepting a position as a working student for 5* eventer and USDF silver medalist Ellen Hume. While working for Ellen at her farm in Texas, Mallory helped care for 50+ horses, worked with OTTBs, and taught in a large lesson program which spanned all ages and experience levels.
