Sojourn Caviary

Sojourn Caviary Breeding for Show Quality pedigreed Coronet Cavies in non-dilute broken and solid colors.(also have Members of the ACBA.

Our Caviary is dedicated to breeding show-quality animals to the standard put forth by the ARBA/ACBA and keeping complete pedigrees and records to assist future generations. Our goal is that the Cavies we produce will be tagged and tracked as best as possible through out their lives, in an effort to keep the best records possible. Our focus at present is the Coronet variety/line and we aim to try

to breed outstanding animals with the aid and mentorship of those before us and the advancement of show-quality cavies. Our small closed-caviary will likely produce only four or five litters in any given year at the most, and that is well into the future when we've grown into our line. We may add other varieties in the future. I am quite smitten with Texels and the more rare Swiss, and would love to add a line of these down the road. Thanks for reading, for liking, and for following our endeavor!! I would also like to add that we're offering fleece ware for your cavies - cage liners, cuddle cups, hammocks, and more - requests accepted and encouraged.

Squee and Flower's adjustment period lasted an hour or so. They're quite companionable now. Thanks to her breeder for a lovely, feisty diva!

With Punkin's passing, Squee has been mopy and needing a friend... Flower will be joining her next week!!

Lost pumpkin a couple days ago, she was like 8 or 9 and had been showing her age. Squeeze is healthy and we will be looking for a companion for her now.

Piggies are so happy to have their cage cleaned and thick, dry, clean bedding installed. They've been loving the cool nights and warm days, and even punkin is gaining weight and getting her wheeks and squees back - for a while she's had piggy-laryngitis. peppers, fresh (untreated) grasses and other treats are keeping them happy and fat!!

Not much to share, so I've been quiet.

A lone female piggy was put up for adoption locally, and I decided that she would make a good cage-mate companion for Pumpkin, who is going strong. They've made fast friends and this weekend were both seen enjoying a frolic and basking in the sunshine on our 65F day.

We are back to freezing temps now, and I they're settled into their den toasty and warm.

My sweet Betsy, TSW Coronet sow, born 2014 passed away yesterday morning after presenting with weight loss two weeks ago, and which seemed to have been corrected, but Saturday she was slightly labored in her breathing and had some clear nasal discharge. Talked with a vet friend and implemented protocols to help her, but it was not to be. She passed away on Sunday morning ... we will miss her sweet Wheek and her snuggles. She was a runt, and was always quite special as I hand fed her.

With her passing my Caviary has diminished to just one, the Abssynian, Punkin and who is getting spoiled now as she gets ALL the attentions instead of sharing them!

Amazing Animal Tricks

What a fun piggy!!!

This video highlights some of Ace's best tricks, along with some of his cute quirks and shameless begging. šŸ™ƒ

Ace truly loves life, and absolutely loves following me around and learning new tricks. He is so outgoing and dog-like in so many ways.

Piggies, Pumpkin and Betsy, have been moved into a more prominent location in the house, now i plan to insert/build some levels in their cage so they have more of a castle than a cage. Once my major fall house cleaning is done ill start that project, :). Both girls are gloriously healthy. I never did find/get a boyfriend for Betsy.

Thanks for everyone's likes and follows. I try to share and keep this page active. Sojourn isn't gone or going, we're just limiting our plans for now. I am looking to find a mate for Betsy but if I don't in the next 6 months I believe that I won't be breeding her. Her cagemate, Pumpkin, is an abyssinian and I may or may not find a mate for her, though she hasn't been bred and is already a bit older than a first litter should be planned for. Much to think on, and in the mean time, I shall continue sharing fun and interesting posts here at Sojourn's page!

Well the Caviary is quiet right now. No excitment or news. Fall has arrived sweetly. Betsy's cagemate chewed her, so she is officially in pet-clip to my sadness. She has her mom's lovely fine soft coat, dense but silky. She is still quite small, and I've upped both of their food ration and carrot/greens/hay as I'd like to see them a bit heavier. Her cagemate is a tort aby of whom we're waiting on to see if she's bred (accident) or not. Thankfully the 'oops' was with other Aby's so perhaps if she does have pups they'll be well build and coated. She looks like haloween to me, and she acts like a we**ie, so that is what I've been calling her ... or catnip since she acts like a cat on nip, :). Betsy talks to us all the time, commenting on every bag rustle and noise. She is such a delightfully sweet, well adjusted girl; now if only we can handle Catnip enough to get her to a similar point, :).

Happy Fall, All - from Sojourn Caviary & English Angoras

The Guinea Gazette

Oh how very true!

09/21/2015

Betsy got a wash and trim today, her cage mate has been trimming her anyhow, and she has been matting terribly despite regular grooming so I gave up trying to coat her. :( She is such a sweetie, and small for her age so I don't expect I'll ever breed her anyhow, and even more doubtful she'll ever see a show ring. Her cage mate is anything but tame, and we're still working on that.

My posting has been severely limited as my account was hacked while we were on vacation and FB restricted my account until this Friday. Hope things get back to normal soon!

In other news all piggies still here are doing fabulously!
