My heart is so heavy this week. Anyone who knows me well knows that I actively avoid news of any kind. My soul can't handle the constant negative bombardment. I have been fed up with our society for many years and at this point I just try to stick to my little corner of the world and not worry about the rest.

But so much tragedy in such a short period of time cannot be ignored. First a beautiful woman is stabbed to death for the color of her skin. She is surrounded by people but not a single one tries to help her or comfort her as she bleeds to death right in front of them.

Four days later, a high school in Minneapolis (only 60 miles from where my children go to school) was shot up with one person killed and six more injured.

The VERY NEXT DAY another school in Minneapolis suffered a horrific attack that left two young children dead and 18 more injured, plus another three adults injured. This shooter purposely waited until the whole school was at mass and worshipping God before he unleashed unimaginable horror on them and when he was finished he took his own life.

Then a peaceful, nonviolent man was murdered in front of his wife and two babies at a political event he organized. An event where he specifically opens the conversation with people who don't believe what he believes. Where he encourages anyone who wants to challenge his beliefs to stand up and talk to him about it. To ask him any question they want.

Many that disagreed with him celebrated and rejoiced, despite the wife and children that now have to learn how to live the rest of their lives without him.

Less than an hour after that assassination, two teenagers are shot in a small town high school in Colorado and the shooter takes his own life.

All of this amidst the 24th anniversary of 9/11. Remembrance of that tragic day in American history was all but drowned out by the political assassination of Charlie Kirk.

At first I was so consumed with mourning all of this violence that I could do nothing but pray for God to save us from ourselves. That prayer has led to my fire being stoked.

I simply won't stand for it. This is not the world my children will inherit. I refuse to allow it.
