AZ Highland Homestead Homesteading in the Central Arizona Highlands. Sheep, chickens, soil health, gardening, and farming. We produce our own food and are learning more every day.

Homesteading in the central highlands of Arizona, we are located at 5400 ft above sea level in the middle of Arizona. We are a family of four with 2 dogs, 10 chickens, a large vegetable garden, many fruit trees, and berry vines. We roast our own coffee. We are a DIY oriented family that recycles, upcycles, and is resourceful in everything we do. We are grateful followers of Jesus, the Way, the Tru

th, and the Life and will share our journey in this walk of life as recovering sinners.

We grow a lot of the food that we eat.
Throughout the last couple of years, however, this staple in our freezers has been a key to markedly better health for our family. At $5.50 per pound, it’s performance fuel that is hard to beat in value and convenience.

Rotational grazing is where it’s at. Keep em moving!

Don't lose your marbling that National Beef Month is coming to a close. Remember that implementation of rotational grazing on your property isn't a high "steak" risk, but it can give you Grade A results. 👌

Keep at it.
Families depend on you to grow the food they eat.
A HUGE thank you to ranchers, farmers, seed bankers, fellow homesteaders, and the truckers who bring it from farm to home. We pray for you at our kitchen table.

As long as our Region’s aquifers remain in overdraft, water tables will continue to fall throughout the basin.

Although falling water levels will affect them, large municipal utilities are best able to adapt because they have the financial resources to augment current water supplies. While augmentation measures such as enhanced conservation, stormwater capture and recharge, and indirect and direct potable recharge (Advanced Water Purification) will increase water rates, the large municipal utilities will have water after other users have none.

Small private water systems serving a single subdivision typically have fewer financial resources. Their wells are located within their service area. These locations are rarely in the most productive area of the aquifer. As groundwater tables fall, they will experience reduced water quality and quantity and greater pumping costs. They may not be able to adapt.

As many as 500 domestic wells on the margins of the Little Chino aquifer are now going dry, causing devastating impacts on families. These families will suffer the greatest personal impacts from a dry well, including the cost of a new well, the cost of hauling water, and the loss of a large portion of the value of their home. CWAG believes that small domestic wells will be the first to suffer the consequences of decades of overdraft, and that these families have the least ability to adapt.
